"If you are looking for a book that has numbers in the title, give 1984 a try. It is a scary read but also very engaging."
  • Pablo Seefoo
    Written on April 30, 2018
"Well, 1984 is a classic and as pertinent today as ever (perhaps even more so today than when it was written). George Orwell was a true visionary for his conception of "Big Brother" and how, if the technical means to spy and manipulate the popoulation are available, governments will not hesitate to use them to their advantage. An absolute must read in our day and age."

"If you're into reading the best novel of the 20th century or hereabouts, this is a good one to start on. There's been a lot of talk about the concepts written in this book. Is this what our world is coming to? A must-read."
  • Israel Suárez

"1984 Is a wonderful book, and written by one of the best non-american authors yet. The dystopian universe is an eye opener for americans. It represents where we might be headed to as a society."

"1984 is a great metafictional novel. However, this particular book is the French edition. Unless you can read and understand French, you will want to look for the English version. "

"Even in 1949, Big Brother existed, it was not a nightmare but a reality. Fast forward to 2018 and Big Brother is more reality than fiction; 1984 provides in great detail whom "Big Brother" is. Interesting read even in 1949."
  • George Johnston

"George Orwell's depiction of the future is fraught with bleakness and stark times of controlling governments and scheming corporations. The ideas presented are fascinating and the predictions that the author incites are engrossing to contemplate, I enjoyed how far the book goes to insinuate the dastardly deeds of Big Brother and what our future may turn into one day."

"Ths book is an absolute classic of literature.I read it when i was in high-school and the book made me look the world with another point of view. Orwell was a genius, a man who had the ability to see into the future and share that vision with the rest of us. The author, By envisioning a world even worse than the USSR, increasing its horrors in every area and manner. "

"I remember reading this book in my english class over 30 years ago. I remember having nightmares after reading it. It is very chilling to think of that book with the way the world has become since I first read it all those years ago. I would say that the book does have a great cover to hide what is actually in the book. "
  • Brian Larson

"1984 is a scary book because it feels so real. You can get a sense that the author, George Orwell, was really worried that the world would become similar to the story described in the book. I have read the English version, and the French version is pretty good as well. I don't think the story lost any meaning in the translation."

  • Luis Alberto Gallegos

"I was looking for one of the best standalone science fiction novels, and a friend of mine recommended 1984, which I'd never read. I picked it up at the library, and it is very good, deserving of its classic status. I don't really think it would be among the list of the best scifi though, it's more social commentary or literature."

"I have always love to read even when I was a child. Lately, I have been looking for the best books that I can purchased on Amazon. The best book I have read so far out of the ones I have purchased from them is 1984 by George Orwell. "
  • Dan Li

"1984 is a book of our time. If anything I would consider it a prediction of now from the past. Orwell's writing style is amazingly detailed and surprisingly accurate of a world today, a society without free thought. Really brings to the edge the difference between fantasy and fact."
  • Lawrence West

"I wish I was introduced to the novel 1984 earlier in my life. I loved it when I read it in college but if I knew about it in high school, I would have understood so much more about modern society."
  • Sofía Cabrera
    Written on May 3, 2018
"George Orwell’s 1984 features a dystopian future society where free thought is illegal and punishable by “vaporization” which is the act of erasing someone from history. Since the government controls all thought and all information, they can change it as they please, and can therefore change reality as they please. Most of the story is based around this idea that anything perceived as reality, is reality, while also drawing many parallels to Stalin’s tendency to erase people from existence and Karl Marx’s political writings."

"I'm sure the millennials think this is a history book... or at least not relevant to their lives. Well, you're wrong. This book, about government being the "Big Brother," is really about security and safety and how that can be taken away from you. Despite the old-sounding title, give it a read."

"1984 is a timeless classic that should be on anyone's must read list. Read firsthand about whether predictions about the future acutally materialize. If want to be amazed by George Orwell at his best, and his description of government oversight, then definitely read this. "

"I read this in high school (I'm 72 now) and at that time it was a prediction of things to come. In some ways it's pretty close. It is interesting that people are reading it more now because of the current situation. I think that if they are alarmed by this book they should try "It Can't Happen Here.""

"I read this book back in high school and it continues to be one of the best sci-fi fictional books that I've ever read. I believe that everyone should have a copy of this book, it is a true reflection of what United States could become under a fascist dictatorship. This is easily one of my favorite books in my collection and I continue to read it to this day."

  • Marcela Molina

"Like most people, I read this first for school. But I have to say, this is a modern day morality tale that every American should read. It's really important. In some ways, it's the forerunner of the modern dystopian novels - so if you like that genre, this is the book that 'begat' them all. But if that doesn't convince you, the ending will. If you read the book, the ending will really shock you (I promise, you'll never forget it). "

"I read this in high school 25 years ago. I still think about this book sometimes,it was very moving for me. When you have to make a choice on how you will rather die if the radiation comes your way...awful awful decision to make. This makes you really think about war and what the worst possible scenario is"

"So I had to actually google what ENTP personality is. Its an abbreviation used in the publications of the Myers–Briggs Type Indicator to refer to one of sixteen personality types. Which I am going to assume a Science fiction book would have. "

At first when I started reading the first pages, it did not move me much but as I continue reading, I became more interesting and fun to. It really made me think of how our government has become degraded. Its an awesome book that will keep you busy."

"I read this book when I was a teenager so I would have to agree it one of the must read books for teenagers and up to this day. The novel tends to focus on how our government tend to ease drop on us and the author thought process about it. The novel won't disappoint you since there is a lot of well written things about big brother and the reality of things. Would highly recommend"

"One of the most classic fictions of all the time by the prolific writer George Orwell. Set in a futuristic living condition where everyone is monitored 24/7. Way ahead of its time, you can even be convicted of what you think. Its modern day meets paranoia in this extremely interesting diatribe into the human condition."

"1984 is a fantastic book that everyone should read at least once. There are so many references to it in popular culture that you've probably been exposed to it at one point or another. The book still holds up well today even though it was published in 1949 and I believe that it should be required reading for everyone. It's a great book."

"1984 is one of my all time favorite books. Now more than ever, it seems like the sort of book everyone should read, the themes of a progressive liberal political party deciding day-by-day what words can and can't be used seems like it might as well be taken from the headlines, not a 60 year old novel."

Some might find this too well known, and may have already read it, but it is still a great choice and a classic novel."
