"The market for gay relationship romance books has certainly gone up in recent years. This one, "A Bit of Rough", tells the story of a shy architect James who goes into a biker bar and allows himself to be seduced and picked up by the rough and tumble Bram Lord. Besides his kind of cheesy name and a few other details, this is a great read if you're in the market. The pages fly by and I'd definitely recommend it if you're in the mood for a gay romantic fiction novel."

"This is an interesting read. I loved the content and how fast paced it was. It was quite sexual for the suggested Young Adult audience I feel, but I enjoyed it never the less. Worth a read but parents may want to read it first."

"It is not really good as a crime book, but the romance and sensual scenes are very nicely written. Laura has a good command of the language, especially in the romantic parts."

"I read this book without really knowing the details. It has a lot adult content and descriptions, but it revolved around a loose plot. It some times lacks connection to the reader. Would recommend if you not looking for a coherent plot but just some fun. And by the way, keep away from children !!!"

"This novel does feature a male protagonist but it is also of an adult nature and it is likely to not be what they were expecting. The book does have slightly above average reviews but the explicit content of the book precludes me from thinking this is an above average solution."

"I never thought it was possible to actually get bored of an erotic novel, but I definitely did with this one. There's almost no plot, just sex scene after sex scene after sex scene. For the first third or so of the book it's a good porn without plot story, but then it just gets tedious. Same sex scenes over and over, same dialogue, same everything and the characters have no personality. One's a cowboy, and the other one's an architect. That's about all we get. The only real plot we get is Bram continuously rescuing Jeremy from almost being raped by a lecherous neighbor, which seemed to exist merely to have some filler in between sex scenes. I mean, I love sex scenes, that's why I read a lot of erotica, but there were just so many that it got boring. Disclosure: I only made it 50% into the book so it's possible something actually happened in the second half but I couldn't bring myself to keep reading. Jeremy isn't quite a female character disguised as a male character, but Bram absolutely treats him as if he's having a relationship with a woman. Lots of ooey gooey mushiness--the word "baby" is used 128 times, and there are at least 20 instances of Bram talking about how much he loves Jeremy "trembling" for him. If you're looking for something to keep you warm on a lonely night, you could do worse, but it just didn't hold my attention."

"'A Bit of Rough' by Laura Baumbach is heavily influenced by the surge in popularity of '50 Shades of Gray'. It just so happens to be about two men, one meek and professional, the other forceful and self-assured, who strike up a relationship. This isn't my cup of tea, but my wife seemed to enjoy it in prolonging the fantasy that came from reading the aforementioned 50 Shades."

"This book is ok, but it is way too focused on sex. I thought the author could have done a much better job with character development and moving the storyline along. It was entertaining at points, but not what I was expecting."

"I usually like her books, but this one didn't quite cut it in my opinion. Not exactly realistic. The characters went too fast from strangers to falling in love, so it was mostly just a lot of hot sex and that was it. It is written well, but not developed enough for me to enjoy very much. "

"My first steps into the erotic novel jungle and not a pleasant one. Judging from reviewer names and the subject women are more into erotic novels and the consensus is there was to much sex in the book and not enough character development."

"While the cover isn't that great, this could be a great story line. This is just the first book, meaning more great stories are going to be available soon. While this type of erotica story line may not be for everyone, this book has potential to be great. "

"I read about a quarter of A Bit of Rough and I didn't think there was anything compelling about the story at all. I thought the James character was fawning and completely unbelievable, and Bram was just a caricature that was never fleshed out."

"I can easily agree that Laura Baumbach is a really great author on gay romance with her stories and novels, but A Bit of Rough is not her best book. Even the other books in the series of Rough are more passionate than this one. "

"Do you like it rough? Or is it at least fun to fantasize about? This book is heavy on sex scenes and steamy passages. It could use a little more character development, but let’s be honest. You picked up this book to read about some sadistic gay escapades and the book does deliver in that. It’s worth a read, just don’t have your expectations super high for the literary prowess of Baumbach."

"As a fan of ya classic erotic books, I am always looking for each book they have. With A Bit of Rough, I felt that this book was far too sex driven as opposed to allowing the characters to develop naturally without sex. "
