"Although this is a very well rated book, there are definitely not enough reviews to make sure that this is the best book. For all we know, these reviews could have come from the author's family."

"Diary novels span a wide assortment of time periods, yet that often does not define the quality of the book. One of the best diary novels, is this one written by Karleen Bradford. This novel does excellent job at setting the story, and excels in telling the story of the protagonist through her eyes. Set during the Civil War, the plight of the protagonist will captivate you throughout the novel, and is worth reading if you enjoy the genre."

"I couldn't put this book down. If you're into the underground railroad I high suggest reading this book. If you do buy this book buckle up because you're in for one wild ride. I highly recommend this to everyone I come across. The book is touching and memorable. "

"This history book is very interesting. This book is based on real story and its described so vividly, and it has a very unique style of writing. I can say that this is a book that is worthy reading it, and knowing this story, problems and challenges of that time."

"I love the Dear America and the Dear Canada books, and this one was a wonderful addition to my collection. There is some violence with the slaves and their masters, but only at the beginning, after that I found it very enjoyable."

"Such a great book and was very inspiring to read and makes me want to read it again! Can't believe this is a true story which makes it sad but also inspiring with what happened"

"Ah it's ok I guess. Nothing really great about this one. There are better ones out there and this one is just a dud. I get the whole diary thing but it's really not my cup of tea. I can see this being interesting to someone who likes to read diary entries."

"I was under the impression that this was a real life diary of a young black girl in the Civil War era, but this is a tale of historical fiction. I am usually more interested in non-fiction stories but this is pretty well written for what it was."

"This gripping biography details Julie May's journey as her family escapes a tobacco farm to eperience freedom in the north. Her life might make yours look easy!"
