in What are the best war novels
- "I'm far from a Hemingway aficionado, but i would recommend the Sun Also Rises and the Old Man and the Sea before this novel. I think it was worth the read and the last sixty pages were like the last round of a boxing match in which a K.O on either side is inevitable. His prose is tight, as advertised, if only Hemingway could sustain his genius for the whole length of this book. Unfortunately,"
- "While he didn't spend much time there, he did own a home and is one of the Florida Keys's most popular writers. "Papa", as he was often called, is celebrated in Key West and is well known for starting the colony of six toed cats that still live on his former estate. This book, A Farewell to Arms, is an exploration of one man's disillusionment with war. Set in Italy, an American ex-pat is an ambulance driver in the Italian corps, and falls in love with a beautiful nurse. This gritty book takes a deep look into the horrors of war and its affect on those involved. If you want to be well versed in books written by writers from the Florida Keys, you cannot skip Hemingway."
- "I would not recommend A Farewell To Arms by Ernest Hemingway as the best fiction book for college-bound readers. It's about war and love, and it might be interesting to others, but I don't really care for his style. He uses simple language, but that doesn't mean it's easy. Plus, there is a lot of drinking."
- "This is probably one of the most critically acclaimed World War I novels of all time. Not only does it show the true horrors of the war, and sets a dreary environment, but I love the fact the story also focuses on a very human relationship. I enjoyed reading all of the different endings despite the tragedy, which I won't spoil. This novel brings tears to my eyes, but it's well worth it."
