"American Gods is an interesting, dark comedy take with lots of Supernatural elements. I found the story to be very engrossing and the characters to be funny overall. I thought it was a fascinating take on gods overall. "

"I will always think of 2001 as the year of "American Gods". It is by far my favorite Neil Gaiman book. It weaves together the story of dark characters with the American spirit. It is book that will keep you on edge and truly surprise you in its finish. "

"What an amazing story. It definitely has an outdated cover, but the story is just as good as any modern book. It's no wonder it won the Hugo and Nebula award for Best Novel."

"This is a great read. I just could not put the book down. The characters were very convincing and the storyline flowed so well. I hope a movie is made out of this book one day! "

"I had such a hard time putting this book down that I ended up not putting it down and reading it in one fell swoop. And then I felt like my eyes would fall out of their sockets, but it was quite a road trip. Or a roller-coaster trip. Something really exciting anyway. At times gross, epic, poetic, hilarious and/or dark, it's truly inspired and it doesn't let go. I found it positively riveting and beautifully written which was certainly part of its appeal. And it's of course full of violence, blood, greed and related niceties. What makes it so good, beyond the storytelling is the vision of the world, of our times, and, especially, of our crazy country. It's rich beyond belief and it's more than a little unhinged. Not for the faint of heart - and not necessarily a YA novel - but a great read."

"This is one of the more creative, imaginative, and unusual books I've read in a long, long time. Sad I discovered it so late; it's truly a great read. A long book, yet reads vey well. Go ahead, dive into Gaiman's wild imagination. Be prepared for unexpected twists, turns, and delightful weirdness. Truly A classic."

"American Gods is a highly creative idea that is well-executed. It is so much more interesting than the trash that is out there today. Extremely intriguing."

"I enjoyed that the novel has a wide range of characters, it can be hard to follow at times, it seems quite chaotic. Overall, I found the story to be quite the adventure with a rather weird time in America. I read and listened to the audio book, I will say I preferred the audio book, it was easier to follow the story and the voice reading was done in a manner that made the story quite enjoyable. "

"American Gods is one of the strangest series.I’m not sure how much else I want to tell you about the plot — and not because surprise is essential to American Gods. This series, which is adapted by Fuller and Michael Green. We have enjoyed the all series and episode. Lovable novel. With lot of twist. Good to read"

"American Gods was given to me by a good friend. I received the paperback edition and started on it right away. The dark humor presented in this novel has a really good feel about it. I was reminded of similarities to classic Stephen King novels. I felt that American Gods was a really good story based around two people traveling around America to recruit American reincarnations of old deities. Their purpose in recruiting these old deities was to battle the new ones. It's a really enjoyable read and I think this is really a well done book."

"This book is so bizarre I dont really know how to classify it, it is worth reading if you are as out there as the writer, it is billed as dark humor and it is , if you love this type of humor this is the book for you."

"Very captivating book. Not something I thought I would have liked but once I started reading it I couldn't put it down. You will be amazed at the way the author lays out the story and how well it keeps your attention. If you are open to thinking outside the norm, I would suggest giving this book a dry, you won't be disappointed."

"This novel was an instant classic. Gaiman, one of my favorites, probably put out his best book when he released American Gods. I remember when I heard this was getting a TV adaptation and went and reread the novel for the third time to get ready. "

"This is definitely one of the best fantasy books of the 21st century. It has a lot of action, humor, and darkness to hold your attention throughout it. I think the author gives you a new way to look at religions and the way things were compared to how they are today. The book was hard to put down because it drew me in. The character that tells the story is interesting of itself because he's a soldier who doesn't even know he's a soldier. Definitely a must read for anyone."

"I got into this a bit backwards, I saw the TV show first and then decided to read the books, and as usual, the book is better than its counterpart. I enjoy both in different ways but the book is written so well and the characters are all so fun that you find yourself getting lost in his little world he's setup for you. Do yourself a favor and give this book a shot."

"Features the main character "Shadow" who was released from prison just days earlier. This book is a modern phantasmagoria. Shadow is recruited to be a bodyguard, driver and errand boy by a taskmaster named Mr. Wednesday. Shadow sets out on a road trip which introduces him to a multitude of eccentric individuals."
