"While this deals with contemporary social issues, it is actually set in England in the 1640s. The main characters are nevertheless instantly relatable and the themes explored should be familiar to everyone. It's a love story, but also a war novel, and epic in scale. It doesn't pound the reader with ideology, but allows the characters to be fully human, and we as readers merely observe and care about them. "

"This book is not really my kind of book. The underlying themes are not something that were relevant to me. I was hoping for more of a focus on the murder aspect, but it was more about the relationship of the two men. The book is written using old language so it is a bit hard to understand at times. It's not a bad book, just not something that interested me. "

"This is a great classic book with gay characters. This book was ahead of its time and culture in its portrayal of gay relationships."

"As a gay male I'm always looking for LGBT-themed books which can stand on their own as great works. As Meat Loves Salt follows Jacob and Christopher, who slowly fall in love over the 17th-century. The plot can be slow at times and it can be a chore to read."

"I wasn't familiar with the English civil wars at all before reading this book, so I found it all so fascinating. I really enjoyed the way the author focused on and developed the relationship between Jacob and Christopher. I also loved how the author did not shy away from showing the dark side of love. This was a great read."

"This period novel tells a story of love without boundary's. In the genre of gay erotica As Meat Loves Salt is a winner"

"The concept is great. A historical look at two gay men. But the author has attempted much too much in this one book. She has a fine grasp on the historical setting but sometimes gets lost in it. Still, you got to give her credit for the attempt, but you don't have to read it."
