"I have a love-hate relationship with this book. It's not an easy, linear read. I personally like the format, but it's definitely not a beach read. However, the gore gets to be too much for me at times."

"This is an ok book, because I have read better. I didn't really like the 1850s setting and felt it hindered the story, a story set in the far furture I think would peak my interest really well."

"I read Blood Meridian as a line marking the West. Literally, a line of longitude that once crossed signals entering the West. The novel, in part, de-romanticizes the typical notions of "going out west," showing the brutal realities of Manifest Destiny, westward expansion, etc."

"This book is not for everyone and could be extremely difficult for those not fluent in Spanish. This book has zero quotations, it has quite the list of Spanish words and is a frankly long drawn story. "

"Blood Meridian is probably my favorite Cormac McCarthy book. The book chronicles a young boy during the outlaw period in the Texas Mexico border wars. "

"I don't know if I would identify t his as one of the "best" novels with an old west setting. That being said, it is a good read and holds your attention fairly well."

"A good fiction book with a well written story. The setting is interesting in the 1800s and the characters are interesting."

"I feel like this is a pretty good solution. The book is highly rated however the violence might not be for everyone. "

"One of the most unsettling and gruesome books I have ever read, Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy is definitely among the best gory novels out there. McCarthy masterfully creates deeply uncomfortable scenes while maintaining a beautifully rich writing style. Adding on to all of that is the fact it is based in part on the real life exploits of the gang described in it. If you are looking for a gore novel, you can't get much better than Blood Meridian."
