"I absolutely loved this book. Carrie's story starts off grim and it easy to place yourself in her shoes. Even if you haven't been a victim of bullying, you can certainly relate to those subjected to it on an emotional level. However, in this story, Carrie just so happens to have telekinetic powers at her disposal to exact her revenge on those who pushed her around. This is the best anti-heroine book I've read. Unfortunately, the movie wasn't very good in my opinion. "

"Vintage King. Character development is so complete it gives this reader the feeling he is part of the story. A helpless voyeur, unable to do anything else but observe (almost like the character in "Autopsy: Room Four" from his collection, "Nightmares & Dreamscapes). Carrie's story is not only engaging, it is compelling and powerful. A young woman, possessed with unimaginable power in one of the most vulnerable times of a woman's life, struggles with the things in her life that makes her different. Her fragile ego is constantly being stressed by the ridicule she must endure and all the hateful things done to her. The story could not have ended better, though, of course, bittersweet on an incredibly horrible scale. (Incidentally, the movie with Sissy Spaceck and John Travolta is really quite good, and does not harm, whatsoever, to the book.) Of course I'd recommend buying this if you are looking for best horror and thriller books."

"I don't think that Carrie is even the best Stephen King book turned into a horror movie. "IT" was much better as was the "Shining""

"This book was so very interesting the way it switched from the book, to the newspaper, and to the book written by one of the characters. Stephen King's depiction of telekinesis was brilliant. Another thing that he nailed at was the character development. I took a liking for people such as Sue Snell and Miss Desjardin, while I loathed people such as Chris and Billy. Carrie White was a bold but fragile character who I was able to relate to, while her mother was an evil, abusive fanatic. King made us understand the disgusting thoughts we think about people who bully us and what we wish would happen to them. The psychological aspect beats the horror aspect by a long shot. It was a great, original thriller. I RECOMMEND THIS DEFINITELY!"

"Recommending the classic Carrie as a horror book seems like too safe an option to me, personally. While it is famous for being American Author Stephen King's first published work, it is not as terrifying as many of his later stories. Therefore, I feel as if this solution is just mentioning one of King's best known books, not selecting one of the best horror books of all time. King has scarier work, and authors other than King have scarier novels as well. While there's nothing wrong with Carrie, I don't think it should be mentioned among the best horror books of all time. Instead, it was only written by one of the best horror novelists of all time. I do not believe this solution, therefore, is effective."

"I found "Carrie" to be a compelling piece of fiction that captures the essence and struggles of youth and adolescence in a way that is both believable and cringingly relatable. Author Stephen King creates an air of validity by using detailed (but fictional) newspapers, court transcripts, and personal memoirs to make the story seem real, in addition to the complex character development that one can sympathize with. While reading this, I truly felt for Carrie, and often imagined myself at that age again in some of her situations. Her actions and the drama that follows is certainly understood and even more enjoyable to experience when you feel as if you are going through the motions with her! "

"If you are looking for a thriller than Carrie is the book for you, because even when I think about the story still, I still get nightmares and I cannot go back to sleep! Carrie is by far one of the most timeless and classic stories about how bullying can make people go insane and do terrible things to one another. This is a story that profoundly shocked me and continues to shape my idea of how fiction should be written. Stephen King is a genius who has the story telling skills to match. He introduces his readers to an immersive and frightening world where supernatural powers are possible and where revenge is almost a given. If you are searching for a thriller than Carrie is a must read!"

"This book really hits home for a lot of people. There are a lot of us that have been teased for being different and have had to endure the embarrassment that comes with it. This book is for those that like to see revenge come to those that have pushed the wrong person too far. The suspense of this movie will have you on the edge of your seat till the very end. A classic Stephen King base movie where all things build slowly increasing your anticipation until you finally get the climax you had been waiting for at the end. Not a movie for the little ones, but adults will find a great deal of satisfaction and suspense in this movie. "

"A modern classic of the supernatural, this slim, straight-ahead thriller has served as a template for countless inferior imitations. It's still the real deal, though: sharply observed, solidly constructed, and suspenseful despite the narrative's sense of inevitability. Author Stephen King employs (fictional) newspaper reports, court transcripts, and personal memoirs to lend a sense of realism to the outlandish proceedings, and that strategy, in addition to the author's ability to create credible, sympathetic characters, works splendidly. "I'm a huge Stephen King fan and have had the privilege of reading a number of this books, Carrie included. I have also seen the movie, Carrie, and both are stories very well told. I don't think anyone will ever forget the infamous pig's blood scene where Carrie ultimately changes her demeanor and starts wreaking havoc on her high school cohorts. I loved this book because I couldn't put it down, I just had to know what was going to happen. It is now a classic horror book/movie in my opinion along with several other of Stephen King's writings."

"Stephen King is the master of horror and for good reason. Carrie is a classic King horror novel, a psychological thriller with a rightfully-notorious ending. A must-read for any fan of horror or thriller fiction, if you're a fan like I am this one will definitely earn a place on the bookshelf - right alongside King's other classics! Like all Stephen King works, there are unusual and controversial themes that some may disapprove of, and King's love of the esoteric is on display here - some people dislike that, and many more love it."

""Carrie" is a good horror novel, but NOT the best. It's rather short, and one of King's earliest works. I would certainly recommend King; he is one of the finest horror novelists to ever put pen to paper. But one should think about his other terrifying novels: "IT", "The Stand", "The Shining"...the list goes on. I would recommend "The Stand". It will keep you reading and leave you terrified. The novel follows several characters, and the horrors each must face after humanity is decimated due to a government-engineered superflu. "

"Carrie of course is a horror book by Stephen King released in 1974. It has been the subject of numerous movies and musical adaptations. It's subject is a teenage high school girl who is bullied by other students. She has a very restrictive religious mother. She discovers she has telekenetic powers and ultimately uses them for revenge on the those who have tormented her. It is one of the best horror books and stories and is so horrific it has been banned many times. For a single answer it is excellent "

"However, the way as Stephen King wrote this book was in such great way that the novel is still engaging not matter if you already know the main highlights. There are some books that if you knew what will happen...bam! All the fun was spoiled and you won't get interested on reading the book. But in here, Stephen King gave you the highlights right away. You haven't advanced even few pages and you already know that Carrie White has Telekinetic powers and something really bad happened in the Prom Night."

"I love horror novels, but to be honest, I've never been a fan of Stephen King's writing. I think he writes way too many books, like he just throws them out there every year hoping one of them will catch on rather than really try to polish them and make them great. I especially feel like Carrie has gotten way too much praise and it certainly didn't need two movies. It's full of plot holes and requires huge leaps of imagination. How did Carrie even get her powers? It's never explained. No thank you."

"My book club met last week and we put a lot of different genres of books in a hat and drew one out. The genre horror books was drawn. The group searched Amazon for best horror books and a lot of the top picks were by Stephen King. I had read some of his books in the past and thought they were really good. We decided as a group, Carrie was one of his best and surprisingly I hadn't read that one. We decided on it and man, it was intense. Probably the best horror book ever. The group agreed."

"This site was able to tell me a variety of reading formats (audiobook, ebook, hard cover, etc) at a variety of prices. It showed a great selection of other books by Stephen King for those who love to be scared. The synopsis grabs the attention without revealing too much. The only part of the site I did not like, was the section called "book awards". I thought that would tell me awards that this particular book received. Instead, it showed a random mixed of genres and books that won awards. "

"I am a big fan of horror books and movies, and always have been. Carrie is a classic, and for a good reason. I think the best thing about it is that most of it is not that "out there". The horror doesn't come from some monster...it comes from an abused and mistreated girl. It comes from someone being treated so badly that their mind developed its own weapon to protect and avenge them. It is not only scary, but an important read. I think it's Stephen King's best work!"

I only read the book because a friend had it and didn't want it anymore. Being an avid reader, I thought I'd give it a try. The time spent reading it wasn't worth it for me. I'd just much rather read a book that has positivity or an inspiring and useful message in it. I wouldn't recommend."

"Raw and energetic, but cartoonish characters resulting in unintentional hilarity. Heavy-handed symbolism and themes, but manage to strike some primordial horror nerves. The end is a disappointment compared to the movie: unnecessary distance created, and big pauses in the action during the climax. The book is padded with articles and letters that add nothing to the story--seemed added to make it a novel instead of the short story it probably should have been. "

Carrie is a really interesting, yet shocking story, about a girl who has a psychic power that can be hard to control and is frequently bullied by the kids at her school. "It is always good to read the novel first and watch the movie. That way it very well depicts the imagination that we had when reading the book and a feel that our imagination is coming live in motion picture on the screen. Horror movies are both fun and thrill to watch and particularly in this novel when a girl has special powers and how she uses this special powers to bring in both positive and negative effects. Can't wait to read the full novel."

"Carrie is one of the best books ever written, in my opinion. It shows us that any unkindness we may perpetuate onto others may come back and bite us. It shows us that we should respect the vulnerable. It does a very good job of getting you involved, and there were definitely some nail-biting parts! I loved this book. It could have been a little more scary though, if I was looking for straight horror, I probably wouldn't have tried this one."

"If you love horror books, check out Carrie, a Steven King book. Even if you haven't seen the movie, you'll thoroughly enjoy the interesting story of a teenage outcast that has psychic powers. Seeing how she copes with the bullying she endures, as well as her overly-religious nut of a mother, and uses her psychic powers to get back at them is incredibly fascinating and scary. His superb skills of character development make you feel very connected to the personas in the story and his unique brand of horror and skirting the thin line between sane and insane really help you get involved in the book. Carrie may feel a bit dated in this day in age but the heart of the story is still as unnerving today as always."

She's a little weird so she gets picked on. Some kids decide to play a prank on her. Bad news, it doesn't work out so well. "when reading the book one can also expect to be taken in by the bullying that the character faces in the daily scheme of things. As a lot of the book focuses on the main characters' "gift", there are also external circumstances that help to fuel her anger towards the other classmates, as it is played out on one fateful night. the above does address this and is helpful to note that it is a problem as well as a gift. It's a story of how a girl with supernatural powers has been raised by an abusive mother and picked on by her highschool, until her bullying comes to a head and she murders them all. It's more a moral lesson of don't bully anyone than anything else, and it's certainly not that horrifying. Watch either movie if you want a more visceral experience."

It kind of exemplifies the struggles of high school, the desperation teens feel to fit in, and the extent others will go to just to keep them out. However, Stephen King definitely ups the anti when he had Carrie unleash her powers on her opposition. Man, what a scene! "

She uses it to get revenge on all the mean kids at high school. It's a good mixture of interpersonal, high-school related drama and supernatural horror, but it doesn't come off as corny or forced like contemporary efforts and combining these kinds of situations. It's considered a classic for a reason."

Most people will have a serious spoiler alert to deal with having seen Brian De Palma's film of the same name; however, King fans should still read this book. The author gives us a lot to choose from so it took me awhile to get to this book but I am glad I did."

The true horror here is not Carrie's telekinesis, although that does make for some good horror, but how people treat each other, especially someone who is different. Man is the scariest monster you could ever imagine. Pick this one up. You won't be sorry."

I have not read Carrie, so I cannot state where it falls as a solution to the topic. "I love horror books and one of the best IMO is Carrie. It is a classic. Most everybody has seen the movies. I always tell people to read the book as well. It is one of the best horror books I have read in a while. If you like the movie you will like the book. I highly recommend. "

"Carrie is a good idea for a horror book. After all, it is King's first. I haven't read it, but it does have very many good reviews. Goodreads has it at 3.9/5 with nearly 380,000 reviews. It's 4.5/5 on Amazon with a little over one thousand reviews. This is indeed a good solution."

"Carrie by Stephen King is a great horror book and one of the best. It's gritty, dark, and raw in all of the right ways. It leaves you walking away from the book knowing that the character had exacted her revenge in a scary and sadistic way, making it great for the horror genre."
