"When looking for a book on a subject which a lot of authors have written on already, checking if a book has won awards can help narrow the field. This book, Colonel Roosevelt, sounds like it covers his earlier years before the presidency, and may not be fully encompassing. However, it's long page count and various awards make me lean towards this being a good choice."
