"I almost never finish books within a week but magically I made an exception for this one. Loved reading about the island history, and getting in the everyday lives of the slaves there."

"This book had a good premise, but the story telling was sub-par. A lot of what came up in the book felt unresolved, and the character development was lacking."

"Beautiful story, very well written. It is an easy read that keeps you entertained. It is a fiction story but with real events of the time."
  • Andrea Ford

"Conquistadora is not the best book for college girls. It is a young adult novel, which is a genre that is much more geared to younger teenagers, not girls over the age of 18. Many more books that would beat this one, especially more age appropriate reading."

"Eloquent historical fiction immersed with culture and landscape. The setting is wonderfully researched and the historical facts never come across like a textbook"

"I was looking for books for my daughter who is in middle school that were both interesting but educational. Conquistadora is about a Peurto Rican plantation owner during the Civil War. It is accurate to that time period. I had to look up some of the Spanish words."

"I've read 'Conquistadora' once in my early twenties and still think about that book to this day. This book spans across an ocean that tells a story of intertwined cultures during an historical event. I would be a great gift to give to a child for them to better understand different cultures in history. "

"I can't say I would recommend this for a teenage girl. Conquistadora is a love story between a young Spanish girl and trials and tribulations with love, adventure, and personal identity. Unfortunately, most American teenage girls cannot relate to this. One, they do not have the same level of autonomy as the main character, and two, it is too complicated for a teenage to understand. I enjoy a good love story, but for a teenage girl, this book is just a little bit too heavy and dense. I would rather recommend Chicken Soup for the Souls series to a teenage girl on the path to self discovery. "
