What the community says about Death Comes for the Archbishop
- "Great choice for this Night Vale character. It has definitely been mentioned in the lore: "well-worn and heavily-notated copy of Death Comes for the Archbishop by Willa Cather" - so I would say she's been through it a time or two or ten. I personally have not, so I can't comment on the book myself... but if you're a Tamika Flynn fan and want to get into her more deeply, I'd say this book is a must-read.""A good book that is worth a read or a listen. It's got immersive story-telling and characters and does a great job and making you care and feel invested. "
- "A classic book that I found enjoyable from start to finish. I like reading the old books because they have a crispness to them that authors of that time possessed. I would read this again."
- "I believe that Death Comes for the Archbishop is Willa Cather's best work. She uses a very unconventional way of telling her stories, while describing each aspect beautifully. I love the inclusion of the Native American history as their people were introduced to Christianity. "
- "This is just more of a classic book, not really a classic for 90s kids. I doubt it will go over very well at all if you're after that 90s vibe, but it should be easy enough to find something else. It's a pretty good read, but the meaning of classic is just a bit different, that's all."

in What are the best classic books"My dad is an avid reader and I'm always looking for the next good book for him. I recently did a search for the best classic books to read before you die and stumbled upon "Death Comes for the Archbishop". I knew he was somewhat familiar with the book but he hadn't read it yet so I decided to get it for him. Wow was he blown away. He loved the story, the characters and everything about the book. ""Catholics are at their core a sacramental people. Reading about the life and times of Bishop Latour and father Valliant will give you a much deeper idea of what that means - how the people, the landscape and the palpable faith in God all combine to sometimes reveal and sometimes veil the magnificence of the Spirit."
