"My middle school aged nephew really liked this book. I suppose this is probably all that matters if you're buying it for a similar aged young child. Out of curiosity I read this book myself. It wasn't bad per se, but it's certainly not meant for adults. Character developments were a bit lacking in the somewhat long book, but it was still enjoyable. Just an overall whimsical book that doesn't take itself seriously. Honestly, even if the book is not perfect by adult standards, I'd still very much prefer seeing children reading it instead of playing on their phones all day."

"First Contact is the first entry in the sci-fi fantasy series, Aoleon The Martian Girl. It's an excellent book for children."

"A great sci-fi story for kids. It's a really fun adventure story detailing aliens from Mars who want our cows on earth. For a weird concept it definitely works and is a great story for high-schoolers to pick up for their summer reading. "

"I kind of feel bad for Gilbert. He wanted excitement in his life, instead it went completely crazy and became overwhelming. There are middle and grey areas, where life can be eventful but good, and keep it from becoming overwhelming and detrimental."

"I am a fan of the Aoleon The Martian Gril series by Brend LeVasseur. First Contact is the first book and it is one I share with my children and it is fun to read about the character Gilbert. "

"This book is an animated tale about fictitious events that happen in space. I thought it was cool when reading it to my grandson. It is great animation but I would not consider it the best children's book about space. "

"I thought that First Contact was an okay children's story, with light and engaging characters and an easy to follow narrative. The problem I had with the book was the art style, which I found to be uninspired and frankly offputting."

"The kids loved this character along with the drawings of her. The graphics are very interesting and Aoleon is quite the character! This book is creative and takes you along a very creative journey into space."

"A ninth grade young adult book should NOT be on this list. I can think of a dozen better both fiction and nutjob non-fiction."
