"It can be hard to find a good book with a Muslim teenager, but the book From Somalia with Love is an excellent read about a Muslim teenager. It is a realistic fiction book that can help other people learn about Muslim teenagers. If I was a teacher I would say that this would be on my fifth grade reading list. "

"The book is from the perspective of a girl, and I think young adult fiction appeals primarily to teens of the same gender. So this is an interesting story for a young woman to read, but given the strong gender roles in Muslim culture, I doubt it would appeal to boys"

"This book features a main character who experiences some culture shock - they were born in an Islamic country, but moved to a considerably more secular place. On one hand, this makes it so that there are not that many Islamic characters relative to what you might find to a book actually set in the Middle East. On the other hand, it does provide some insights into what it is like to be Muslim in a more secular society, which gives you more looks into the nature of faith - there's not much of a struggle for someone to live a lifestyle that's exactly like what everyone else around them lives."

"From Somalia with Love is a great book--I enjoyed it as an adult, even though it's sold as YA. It taught me a lot about a culture I didn't know about, which Na'ima B. Robert seems extremely knowledgeable about, without seeming like a textbook."

"This book does an excellent job of something I think we need more of in the US; raising cultural awareness of Islam. There are a lot of misconceptions about it and the more literature we get, the less close minded people we will have. "

"I got this for my kids to learn about what it fells like to be an immigrant . They both loved it and have passed it around to their friends who also loved it. It is a first hand look which makes it all the more enjoyable and believable. How difficult war is on children is important for children to learn also. Highly recommend."

"This book is possibly better suited to a little younger audience, perhaps middle school to high school. A young adult may enjoy reading it, but I'm not sure I'd say it's written specifically for young adults. "

"I don't normally read a lot of books but I got this one for my birthday. I found it really well written, and relatable. It really captures some of the essence of growing up. Recommend for any young adult readers!"

"You could do a lot better than this if you're looking for fiction. Spread into YA or Harry Potter, honestly, or something like a Patterson novel if you want a real treat."
