"Gone With The Wind is a classic everyone should read and because it's set during the Civil War it is obviously related to slavery but that is only a small part of the story. This is really more about Scarlett O’Hara and how the Civil War changed her life. I wouldn't recommend this as one of the best slavery books you can read. "

"Gone With the Wind is really long. It has over 1000 pages. Despite being more than double 500 pages long, it isn't tedious. Other books I have read over 500 pages become tedious very quickly, but Gone With the Wind kept me engaged the entire time I was reading it."

"I teach tenth grade English and was looking for influential books for my students to read. I found Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell. I read it before having my students read it and it was an okay book. I think it might be a little to long for my students to read but for an adult I think it's a good read. It did get a little boring in certain parts but I would read again."

"Frankly, my dear... Gone with the wind is one of the best selling books in human history. There are reasons for that - this book is raw with passion and has an incredible antebellum setting. This is an absolute must-read entry in the genre of Americana - this book seeps with its southern setting. This is without a doubt, The Great American Novel!"

It's an amazing book all around. I plan to eventually watch the movie, but not before I read this again. Can't wait to write my thoughts and feelings about this book for my project."

"Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell is a Pulitzer Prize winning classic and an absolute read even if you have seen the original movie. It is considered The Great American Novel and sheds light on what it was like to live in the deep South during the plantation era. You will fall in love with the characters as I did. For those us from the South or who like me, frequently visited there during my youth, the setting is well drawn out and almost a character in the story itself for all of it's faults and short comings. While it is hard to hear about slavery and some may not be able to take it, it is really a story of love and war."

"Great, classic, timeless tale, but not exactly on topic with an erotic romance. It definitely did however have a love triangle, and an extremely deep one at that. It's amazing to read all of the old anger and hate towards the north in general from the time itself. Must read, one of the greatest books of all time."
  • Israel Zamora

"Gone with the Wind is not only one of the best movies ever created, it is also one of the best books ever written. Not just in my opinion but in the opinion of millions of others. I first read this book during a long trip to Malaysia which was over 30 hours travelling time. On every leg of the trip, I couldn't put the book down. I read it in the airport, on the plane, in the hotel room, on the beach, and whenever I had some spare time. The book is so large and detailed that I was still reading it when I embarked on the plane back to the United States. An audio book would be fantastic as my hands would be free to type or clean the house while I listened to the book."

"This book is a classic, this book probably launched what is known today as romantic love. Well written , not sappy and the females not so helpless as to make the book boring, although she started out more like the ugly step sisters in Cinderella. She grew up both in body, mind and spirit to make wonderful decisions The male a real man With all the hurt and pain from the war and others surrounding her she conquered all. A wonderful store written in a time when there was nothing wonderful going on. A book everyone old and young should read, and not just watch the movie,as the movie does not do it justice."

"Gone with the Wind is a classic, powerful story that is considered a Great American Novel for a reason. It can be difficult to get through at over 1000 pages, but it can also be a real page turner. It occurs in the southern state of Georgia and contains vivid locations and characters, and a powerful narrative."

"A lot of people rave about Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell, but I personally didn't enjoy the book. The writing and characters were both good, but I just couldn't deal with all the racism depicted in this novel. I understand that this is just a depiction of the time period but regardless the racism made this a tough read for me."

Scarlet's plight always moves me no matter how many times I read this book. Every Southerner needs to add this novel to their collection."

I first saw the movie back in 2002 during a high school history class and ever since then I've been wanting to read the book. I think this is one of the great novels that captures how a great historical event transformed a young girl into a woman."

"I have read Gone with the Wind by Maraget Mictchell so many times over the years that I have worn out the cover. This great American classic is on my list of top ten books. Everything about this book is enjoyable -- strong, engaging characters; beautifully written story; exciting, well developed plot; and a gripping, colorful setting. I feel transported to the South during the Civil War years when I read this book and I am left with the feeling that I better understand the complex issues of that time, some of which still resonate today."

"I had to do a report for school on any book as long as it had more than 500 pages. My first thought was to wonder if any books came with mega-sized fonts. Luckily, my mother recommended Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell. Well not at first, the book is over 1000 pages! But once I started reading, I got sucked in and it didn't feel that long at all. It's an amazing story and the best long book I've ever read."

While I hoped she would have a wonderful time diving into the great american novel, it was not the case. The book no longer seems to hold the attention or even be relatable to a young adult audience. I still plan to show her the movie, but the book will have to wait till she is older."
