"The book has it's share of ups and downs. The plot and decriptive nature of the book keeps it interesting, the author has a great knack for describing things such as nature and battle scenes. The major downfall is that the main character Katsa is too predictable and hard to like and sympathize with. This ends up taking away from what could have been a classic book."

"I've always been a sucker for immersive writing that throws one into an alternate plane or universe. This would be a perfect example of the aforementioned. From page one, we are spirited away to a realm very unlike our own, however ironically similar (curious if that was purposeful). Great read. Emotional, struggle-resolve, depth, and believability at their apex."

"Graceling takes place in a medieval time period where seven kingdoms rule the land. Among the people there are those who are ‘graced’; those bearing two different colored eyes and a superhuman expertise in a particular skill (Ex. fighting, swimming, climbing, archery, mind reading, etc). Katsa, the protagonist, has the grace of killing. She lives in the Middluns kingdom where those that are graced belong to King Randa and have little freedom. The king uses her as a weapon, sending her out on missions to threaten, torture, and kill against her will. It is only when Prince Tealiff of the Lienid kingdom is kidnapped that Katsa embarks on her own mission of saving him and learning the reason for his capture. She is accompanied by some friends and allies along the way, including the charming Prince Po of Lienid. When I first picked this book up I initially that there was a greater emphasis on the magic aspect of the story. But in actuality, it is a pretty normal setting except for the graced people. And even the skills of the graced are pretty normal: swimming, running, fighting. The only grace that we see that is particularly supernatural is mind reading."

"What do you do when you're a killer, but want to be a lover? This book tries to look at that. I found it kind of interesting, but it started good and ended less well. Basically, the premise I thought the author was going to play with was more interesting than where the story actually went. The main character is a bit whiny, and once she meets her love interest it gets kind of predictable. Which is a shame, because it could have been really good if the story had just slowed down a bit and played with the theme rather than rushing into dating scenes."

I own multiple copies and the cover art is very beautiful. You can use the Amazon webpage to view the beautiful cover and also purchase a copy for yourself."

It is a New York time bestseller, Publishers Weekly, School Library Journal,Booklist, and BCCB Best Book of the Year it has a great reviews and it has a good price so definitely it solves the problem."

"No wonder this book is a New York Time's bestseller! However, I would not regard this book as a 'princess' book because when you hear the word princess, something girly comes to mind. This book is more of a fantasy novel that takes place in a medieval era where there are kingdoms that rule the land and the people. The book is somewhat slow-to-start, but for a good reason. The author provides an in-depth picture of the setting the novel takes place in and the relationship between Katsa and Po is entertaining."

"Really cool fantasy story, I'm glad I picked it up. Katsa was an awesome protagonist and I really liked her. The other charcaters were hit or miss and some of their abilities were kind of odd. But for a light, fun fantasy story this was great. Very cool, would like to see a sequel. "

"Graceling from the Graceling Realm series is pretty much the best novel written about a female assassin. She's really a dynamic character that has a lot to learn and in this book you can really see her grow. I read this book in particular from the series when I want a heavy dose of female empowerment!"

"I don't quite understand all the rave reviews about this book. It's well written, but the character Katsa was annoying to me. She's anti-marriage and anti-kids, because she claims that it takes away a woman's freedom. Since when? She thinks that dressing in dresses or anything "girly" is a weakness. Again, since when? I just don't click with this character's beliefs or values, something that needs to happen in order for me to enjoy a book. "

"I enjoyed this fantasy book despite not particularly connecting with the main character. Katsa can be harsh and unrelatable, but the plot of the book is interesting. I listened to the book rather than reading it, so I think that I noticed the writing style/grammar problems less than those who were actually looking at the words. The premise was fascinating – some people grow into special abilities called graces although each grace is different. Katsa has a fighting grace, which her King has her use to intimidate and harm people. Despite hating it, she never fights against it and accepts her position as a killer. I understand the fear of the King’s anger, but cannot reconcile that with allowing oneself to be used and abused in such a manner. She is a fighter and strong enough that no one should be able to command her. Her freedom and her choices should be her own, but she allows herself to be manipulated for a long time. Po, on the other hand, was very likable. He brings out a better side of Katsa and forces her to realize that she does not have to be the King’s puppet. He is intelligent, a revered fighter and kind. I also liked another character, but as they do not have a role until the later half of the book – I’m afraid that talking about them might spoil details"
