"Holes is a great children's book in the genre of mystery and detectives. Young boys will enjoy reading this book a lot while putting themselves as the characters of the book. I am not sure what the topic meant though by saying tween boys."

"This young adult novel, which was adapted into a popular film, is a famed hit with its target audience. It's a massively popular best seller, and one of the best choices for a teen reader. The setting is fantastic but still relatable enough for a wide range of people, and the colorful cast of characters will stick with them as well."

It's a modern classic."

"Holes is such a great book, all around solid adventure story and one of the best Newbery medal winners I've read to date. It's sort of a Horatio Algiers in reverse, great storytelling."

"What a great book! I love books that only have one-word titles and Holes is something that both me and my 14-year-old daughtered loved. This book is so charming and I love the way Louis Sachar paints the story. "

"Good book, although it seems aimed at younger readers. I do recall seeing the Disney movie adaptation a few years ago, and liking it for the most part. I liked this fine as well, it's just reads younger than I would have liked."

"I would not rate this a must read children's book. I am not sure if this book is based off of the movie with the same name. I would not allow a child less then 10 to read this book. The topic seems a bit too old for younger readers."

"This is a book geared toward a youthful audience but I found it just as interesting as an adult. I of course read it first before letting my nieces read it. They are in middle school and I felt they would enjoy it. The first chapter was a quick read as well as the rest of the book. The chapters are easy to get through and not too long. Centered around a detention center with the boys digging holes so the title is very appropriate. I finished this book relatively fast and considered reading it again which I just might do. I was looking for a children's fantasy novel when I stumbled across this. I'm not sure if I consider it a true fantasy novel but it depends on your interpretation. Either way I would recommend reading it at least once."

"Adventure fiction books have been around for a long time. The part I like is that the best of them turn into movies! Holes is about a coming of age story for boys. It is set in a far off place and time. It would make a great movie!"

"Holes was a very interesting book that I read as a kid where the main character got convicted of falsely stealing an item and sent to a camp to 'man up' by digging holes and living in extreme conditions. Over time he makes friends, uncovers a plot by the warden, and ends up dispelling a curse. It's actually pretty engaging and it was a great movie too. If you have a young kid, get them to read it as I bet they will love it. Highly, highly recommend."
