"Great classic novel. I was forced to read it in high school. I didn't like it then, but I have gained a new appreciation for this series after re-reading it as an adult. Highly recommend"

"Little Women gives you view into the earlier era of Victorian life just as Downton Abbey gives you its last days. I remember reading this with my sister when we were young and both of us hanging on every word about the four March sisters. Every literature buff or someone who wants to look into the past should read this enthralling tale. "

"A true classic! One of my favorites! In my opinion, Little Women by Louisa May Alcott is a great book for young adults to read, because it is a story about four young teenage sisters who were becoming women and enduring a variety of hardships and enjoying exciting adventures in Civil War New England. I really think that a lot of young people can relate to a lot of the feelings and journeys of the four young ladies in the book and gain a greater appreciation for this special stage in life."

"So i honestly think that this book does not do this question justice. i would say a better Fiction novel with a child protagonist would have to be ERAGON, not only is it set in a beautiful descriptive land, it is well written and more modern much more captivating in the end "

"The format of the paperback version of this book is awful. I should have paid more attention when purchasing it but I didn't realize they ever sold books this way! It is the size of a magazine and each page has 3 columns of text on it, which is not the most comfortable way to read. Looking back I see that it states the style here so it really is my fault for not reading into the details and I will look more closely when buying books in the future now that I know that they may be sold in this awful style."

" As a young child in elementary school, I picked up Little Women in my school's library, and since then, I have been in love with the series. It is a timeless book that takes you back to a simpler time in life, where all that matters is family, fun, and nature. It is a great book for everyone to enjoy. I really love the characters, and find myself identifying with Jo, despite the differences in our lives. A great book reflective of American Transcendentalism, I highly recommend this book to readers of all ages. "

"I think this answer is a good stretch. While Little Women does have some Christmas settings, and more broadly, themes, that is not the main thrust of the book. It does show characters with strong altruistic traits and generosity, which are Christmasy, but it is not primarily about Christmas, nor does it primarily take place during Christmas, etc."

"If you are into books set in the Civil War era in New England, Little Women is the perfect novel for you. Louisa May Alcott is a brilliant female writer. Okay, to be honest, I never recommended this to my friends because of its lowkey religious agenda. And that it gives me the notion that girls should all be little domestic homebodies. But, instead of taking it negatively, I was more inspired to strive harder and break the gender-role perpetuated by this patriarchal society. "

It's a classic book, it makes you feel as though you are living in that time period. It's engaging, heartbreaking, hopeful but you savor every moment of it. Overall, a great read!"

"Little Women is an old classic that was simply begging to be re-read. I think I started the book so many times when I was in elementary school that I had actually memorized the opening chapter. Every word rang as familiar to my eyes and heart as a forgotten Christmas Carol. But, but I don't remember ever finishing the book -- until this time. "

"Not my preferred genre, but a good representation of the books history. This book can be a little hard to read to due the old fanshion language at times, but it plays a very good coming of age theme in a very harsh era the was a tough time in american history. Should be in anyone's classics section of their library."

"In the "me too" era, this classic book is worth a second look. The women in this novel are strong and can serve as powerful role models for girls of today looking to make a difference for their gender. I read this for the first time as part of a women's lit class, and maybe it was the class discussion or maybe it was the book that I enjoyed more -- but either way, I learned a lot and was happy to explore the daring Ms. Alcott showed over a hundred years ago."

"I never felt that Little Women was a Christmas tale, although it has been a long time since I've read it. I always saw it as a teenage/coming of age tale about some girls dealing with societal gender expectations. It's not a bad read. Perhaps something to read over a Christmas break from school."
