"Lord of the Flies is an excellent book as it reminds us what happens when law and order are not enforced. The story telling is solid and the cast of characters are all interesting. I felt genuine concern for all of them throughout the book."

"Lord of the Flies is one of the best books about teen angst. A highly esteemed classic, I was given a copy recently by an old friend. The story is timeless and still endures. There's no wonder it's given as mandatory reading material in some schools!"

"Lord of the flies upsets me knowing there is no "return to civility". They are returning to a world that is also at war. The point is that, left alone, the boys form a society that is unstable, and it ends in a war that burns the whole island. In the same way, the men in the "civil" world are alone, and have formed a society that is unstable, is in the middle of a war, and is ruining the planet. It is not that they are being rescued from a savage world and returned to a civil one. They are being "rescued" from a savage world to an even more savager one."

"The Lord of The Flies has many lessons on how we operate as human beings. It shows certain human behaviors in a raw form that we sometimes forget is still present in our culture. This is a book that everyone should read at least once. People should also really analyze the lessons that are taught in the book and compare it to the culture of our world today."

"A book about insects? Just kidding! Dont let its name fool you! Lord of the Flies is a classic novel by William Goldring which centers around a group of young boys who become stranded on an island. Who will take control and who will survive? These questions leave you guessing at each turn of the page. It kept me interested throughout! "

"Lord of the Flies doesn't jump out at me as being a good recommendation as best book with mentally ill characters. Even though the boys exhibit bullying, teasing, jealousy, and possible PTSD among some of the older boys, I wouldn't necessarily classify any of the characters, specifically, as mentally ill. Ralph comes closest to fitting the profile."

"This book has a story that is unforgettable, I read this in my English class in High School, and I still remember the story pretty clearly after 7 years. It has a story that is very interesting to think about, and has a surreal feeling in many different times during the story. I recommended this to friends and family who have never read this book, but enjoy survival stories."

"Reading this book reminded me of the book ' Animal Farm'. Both the book satirically tells what happens when people in power are unchecked. It tells us that people, at there core, are basically savages who are living under the cloak of civility for the fear of law and order. This book is funny and true at the same time."

"Using a group of innocent schoolboys stranded on an island, the author very realistically portrays human behavior in an environment where civilization no longer has meaning. Should people be forgiven for what they do on a deserted island? That depends on whether you think their true nature has revealed itself, or their humanity has been corrupted by circumstance and stress. "

"This is basic reading for young people. It gives a chance to younger kids (especially boys..but girls too) to imagine life without adults. It wouldn't necessarily be great. In fact it might be downright bad. The story is compelling and for more mature kids it is a must read."

"Golding’s iconic 1954 novel, now with a new foreword by Lois Lowry, remains one of the greatest books ever written for young adults and an unforgettable classic for readers of any age. This edition includes a new Suggestions for Further Reading by Jennifer Buehler. At the dawn of the next world war, a plane crashes on an uncharted island, stranding a group of schoolboys. At first, with no adult supervision, their freedom is something to celebrate. This far from civilization they can do anything they want. Anything. But as order collapses, as strange howls echo in the night, as terror begins its reign, the hope of adventure seems as far removed from reality as the hope of being rescued."

"I was working 8am to 7pm shifts for the past few years and I wanted to make sure I spend time in the evening with my 9 year old twin sons. I was looking for something exciting and intellectually stimulating to share with them while I read to them at night. I found this amazing book called "Lord of the Flies" which is an amazing cautionary tale and novel by William Golding that allows children to reflect on the tragedy and violence that humans cruelly inflict on one another. The story is about a group of young boys who crash on an island and begin to form alliances and a hierarchical structure of power. Unfortunately, due to the corrupting nature of power, the boys begins to pick on and make fun of one boy by calling him Piggy. My sons absolutely loved the story and ask me to reread it to them all of them because of the powerful moral dilemmas being discussed. Thank you William Golding for writing Lord of the Flies and teaching humanity about human nature!"

"There's no question Lord of the Flies is a difficult book. It is dark and violent, striking at the heart of what it means to be civilized. But it's important for each of us to think carefully about the us vs them, hunters vs non-hunters tribalism currently at work in our society"

"A perfect book for High School age kids who think they know best and know all. I remember reading this when I was around High School age myself and thinking, WOW. I was shocked. It's a horrifying look at what can happen without rules or structure. I also think, even though fictionalized, it provides a great tale of how mob mentality happens. It's a perfect lesson in these increased times of bullying in schools."

"This book is absolutely iconic. Who can forget Piggy and the shell? It's a book with a lot of life lessons to teach and I would recommend it to anyone. The writing style does take a bit of getting used to at first but it really sucks you into their world and the characters are all realistic and the dialogue is fantastic as well. It's definitely a must read."

Some people find that a bit weird, but its' the science of wow they did and how others caught them that interests me. Lord of the Flies is a staple story if you're interested in the same subject. It's a very solid book and has stood the test of time for years now."

"I had to read this when I was in school and thought that it was just okay. As with most stuff that you are forced to read because it is supposedly a classical piece of literature, it was overrated. At times I found myself to be bored and my mind wandering while I was still reading the lines of text. It might be worth a read but only one time."
