What the community says about Luck in the Shadows (The Nightrunner Series)
- "I like fantasy novels in the older styles, full of adventures and romance and chivalry, before they all had to turn gritty and bloody. This one fits the bill, but is also way ahead of its time for having a gay character in the book, something which still to this day is fairly rare in most genres. It's wonderfully written and engaging and a total page-turner, having representations of people we don't often see in books is just a great bonus."
- "Luck in the Shadows (The Nightrunner Series) is a great romance fantasy book for any reader. The characters are richly developed and the plot is action packed. It's great that there are other well written books in the series. For those new to this genre, I recommend giving this one a read."
- "Interesting book if you are into fantasy, and also has a main character who identifies as homosexual. This just happened to be a book I chose from the library that looked interesting. Luckily, I ended up enjoying the book, and would recommend it to others who are open to those sort of things."

- "More infodumping than I like, but that's so common in fantasy it hardly seems fair to criticize a single book for it. Otherwise, it's well-written: the characters are complex and interesting and the romance doesn't fall into either of the irritating literary tropes of "so overwhelming it overtakes the plot" or "obviously shoehorned in for the sake of having a Love Interest". It actually comes across as a natural relationship. The plot has the standard epic fantasy "we're on the brink of war" thread but steps back a bit further than usual, which provides an interesting change."
