"One of the more underrated romance novels. The hardships the characters face in their relationships may have something to do with it. Romance novel purist my not put it at the top of their lists but it deserves to be. "

"A timeless classic that is as relevant to young women today as it was when it was written in the 1850s. The author brings you inside Emma's mind so clearly, you become deeply involved and forget any of the outdated writing or information."

"As someone who is not really a fan of romance, I don't really like this book, but after reading reviews I think it is a good novel. Everyone will enjoy this one. "

"Madame Bovary is a classic novel according to the daily telegraph. Madame Bovary tells the story of Emma Rouault, a young woman who marries Charles Bovary. This book is a well written novel by a classic author. I highly recommend this book to add to your list of classic tales."

"Madame Bovary: Provincial Manners (Oxford World's Classics) is book by Gustave Flaubert. It is available from Amazon for $40.00 for a mass market paperback. The price is very inflated and coming from 3rd party. The story is about Emma Rouault meeting and marrying Charles Bovary. Emma's life doesn't go as planned and eventually spirals downhill after meeting Rodolphe. It fits the topic."

"This solution really does not go with the topic from what I have read. "

"A classic literature where nothing goes expected for poor Emma Rouault, who after marrying a doctor doesn't quite get to live in the lap of luxury as she expected. Its interesting yet tragic."

"Perhaps it would be best if I knew French and read the original. The story was utterly and ridiculously depressing, so it was hard to see this as an example of literary perfection. Should have reread Pride and Prejudice."

"If you are looking for a classic love story, don't look any further than Madame Bovary. It's a great tale of a woman who finds herself distastifed in her life and takes a different path. It can be a little depressing but also humorous and enjoyable. "

"The Guardian might think this is a must read, but I didn't even finish it before I got bored. I thought the story about the main character was a bit much and very unrealistic."
  • Vincent Soto

"This book is much better than its film version. It is a good choice for this topic."
  • Kelly Wilson
    Written on April 28, 2018
"I do not believe anyone actually enjoys reading Madame Bovary! It is a classic but unlike many others it has not translated well into today's times. The main characters are shallow and not well developed. The story suffers from a man attempting to write how a woman feels- it falls flat and is often stereotypical. "
