"One of my favor ite book of all time. Although Steinback has a way of taking extreme cases of the era and putting it in one scenario like he did in Grapes of Wrath, of Mice and Men is his best work. This touches on many subject incuding friendship, labor practices, loyalty and treatment of the disabled. This started out as a book that I "had" to read for high school English but I have read it a few times in my adulthood. A must read in American literature."

"I read this book in high school and love it. The book has many emotional twists that are absolutely gut wrenching. The writing is easy to understand. While the book is old, it is still very relatable to today's culture. I would highly recommend this book. "

"I decided to reread Of Mice and Men after not having read it in at least decade, not since I was forced to read it in high school. And wow! Younger me did not appreciate how powerful this story felt. A fine example of a story that takes on a life of its own. Steinbeck has a masterful way of capturing the landscape against which such heart-breaking tragedy unfolds in such beautiful words. I was crying by page 45! This truly is one of those books that will stay in my thoughts for a long time"

"I have never liked movies or books set at this period in time. This is no different, it's always so boring and not captivating. I found this book in a lost and found box and thought to read it, that was not a good idea."

"My English teacher assigned this book in class. For the first time, and probably the only time the way the others have gone, I found an assigned reading book that's actually got a good and interesting story. It's entertaining. I see some stuff here that I now recognize is where other stories have gotten it, like the odd pairing, or the two opposites attract friends. Or, at least, they were influenced by this book when they were written. And it ends so sad, but also in the only way that really made sense. Too bad the other books in English class aren't as good as this one."

"It's a classic, to be sure, and I figure just about everyone has read it at one time or another. It's still a good story, though it's been reference and re-done so many times that the original gets a little lost sometimes. But still, a strong book that everyone should read once, just to see how it originally plays out."

"If President Obama recommends this book, you know it has to be influential. I was actually surprised how short the story was, yet it still managed to have a great impact on Western society and classic literature. Steinbeck really had a knack for portraying life during the Great Depression, and I think every American should take a look at the places we've been, and where we might be headed again."

"John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men is one grim and depressing novel. This book was littered with death and offers little comfort. Despite the depressing nature of the story, this is a well-written novel and a quick read."

"Two difference types of characters come together in this short story, "Of Mice and Men." Heck, I bet you've even heard of it! A petite young man, who may lack in size but has intelligence, goes off a journey with a very large, quite the opposite of himself type of man. This is for anyone who loves a nice, "but can't keep your eyes off it" type of feeling."

"A lively and insightful view into Monterey during the Steinbeck era. The characters are rich, humorous and representative of the era. Steinbeck leads the reader through brothels, canneries, merchantile stores and a scientist's practice. It is a "must read" for anyone who likes Steinbeck or is interested in California history."

"Of Mice and Men is a great, if not one of the best 20th century American novels that will continue to astound readers of all generation. Although some text may fly over the younger readers head, it is a novel that will continually push the question of what is right and what is wrong."

"I was forced to read "Of Mice and Men" in high school. While the writing was top-notch (it's a classic for a reason) the story is so bleak that I wouldn't read it again on a dare. You would be better served by something like "Out of the Silent Planet.""

"I have always loved to read fiction but I often don’t have enough time to read long novels. So, I decided to read short novels for adults. The best book I have read so far is Of Mice and Men which is short but has a great story set during the Great Depression. "

"It never occurred to me that Of Mice and Men was really under 100 pages, so I went back to check, referring to the copy I keep on my shelf in my study, and sure enough, it was. That was surprising to me, because I've read it many times, and it always seemed so much longer than that."

"What is there to say, really? This book is a classic. If you're a human with a heart, it will make you reconsider your relationship with the planet and everyone around you. If you're a human with an ambition to write it will make you want to slit your wrists for how much damn talent John Steinbeck manages to stuff onto every page."
