What the community says about Ozma of Oz
- "I have always thought that the Oz stories fascinating. L. Frank Baum is a truly gifted writer who has a a vivid imagination and knows hows to lay the story out so we all want to read more. I look forward to reading the 3rd installment as soon as I have a chance.""Not his most famous, or best, Oz book, Ozma of Oz is still essential reading for fans of the series. Please note that if you're only coming into this from the movie, prepare to have your mind warped!"
- "Ozma of Oz: A Record of Her Adventures with Dorothy Gale of Kansas, Billina the Yellow Hen, the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman, Tik-Tok, the Cowardly Lion and the Hungry Tiger; Besides Other Good People Too Numerous to Mention Faithfully Recorded Herein published on July 30, 1907, was the third book of L. Frank Baum's Oz series. It was the first in which Baum was clearly intending a series of Oz books. It is the first Oz book where the majority of the action takes place outside of the Land of Oz. Only the final two chapters take place in Oz itself. This reflects a subtle change in theme: in the first book, Oz is the dangerous land through which Dorothy must win her way back to Kansas; in the third, Oz is the end and aim of the book. Dorothy's desire to return home is not as desperate as in the first book, and it is her uncle's need for her rather than hers for him that makes her return. The book was illustrated throughout in color by artist John R. Neill. It bore the following dedication: "To all the boys and girls who read my stories – and especially to the Dorothys – this book is lovingly dedicated." Odin’s Library Classics is dedicated to bringing the world the best of humankind’s literature from throughout the ages. Carefully selected, each work is unabridged from classic works of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, or drama."
- "The Oz series are some of the most well known fantasy stories of all time. This is one of the lesser known entries, but it's still a good read, and fun to see how the series evolved from the original. The worldbuilding in the series is interesting, and it's nice to take a look at how the characters change and adapt to new situations."
- ""Ozma of Oz" is one of several books in a series of works concerning the land of Oz - many people probably don't know there are actually quite a few books about this fictional world. This book actually takes place in another imaginary world, in which the characters are trying to return to the more familiar land of Oz. Children who are taken in by the movie and looking for more adventures with these characters will probably find this book to be ideal for them."
