"I would highly recommend the Mars Trilogy, but rating Red Mars as a standalone book, it is excellent! It's a little older, but that doesn't mean being dated will take you out of the story. It's a great series!"

"I love space operatic novels. Red Mars really hit the spot for my insatiable thirst for good literature. This was a trilogy that showed people colonizing Mars. Great plot development and it kept your attention the entire time."

"While it is obvious this book is not based on real life it also shows what we as humans struggle with right now. How we are tempted to try to find a way to live on Mars. How we struggle with ways to fix the planet we are on so we figure we might as well choose another planet to live on. I loved this book and couldn't put it down."

"was quite frankly bored to tears by this book. I read at least a third of the book and I gave up after that due to boredom. The characters were not interesting and the author somehow made space exploration boring. There were no interesting sequences or interactions between the story which made it hard for me to care. I regret wasting time on it."

"For readers who like Andy Weir and space books, the Mars Trilogy and Red Mars by Kim Stanley Robinson would make a great read. Also with the books being turned into a television series, now would be the perfect time to pick up Red Mars and starts the series. "

"Red Mars is a marvelous book about interplanetary colonization. The book tends to focus on the science aspect, and not so much on the fighting. This my not be the most appropriate if you are looking for a true fighting novel. This tends to align itself with geography and environmental details ."
