What the community says about Same-Sex Unions in Premodern Europe
- "Same-Sex Unions in Premodern Europe is a book that may not seem very controversial right now, but back in its time it same sex relationships were highly frowned upon. The author does a good job at transporting you to the setting and everything about the book is very descriptive. It sucked me in much more than I thought it would, I'm glad I gave this book a chance."
- "If there were any question as to Gay Marriage, this book has the answers. I am a conservative, and politically felt that the government should stay out of marriage altogether--straight or gay. A friend (from a more liberal point of view) suggested I read this book.....I changed my mind (partially). I still believe that the government should play no part in marriage; but, I also see that marriage (gay or straight) is a spiritual union between to loving, committed human beings, and has been historically recognized by the catholic church and orthodox sects. I also see that changes in christian views of the bible came at the end of the fourteenth century, influenced by cultural biases and masogeny of the times. It gives a different perspective as to the truth of Christian teaching thereby upholding the idea of "love" as opposed condemnation and the "shall nots". I only wish I had read this earlier."
- "I've been reading all the best non-fiction American history books at a fast and furious pace. Perhaps I need to slow down, however, because I bought this book even though "Europe" is right there in the title. Oops! Anyway, Same-Sex Unions in Premodern Europe, by John Boswell, is an excellent book that fits a lot of the criteria that I've been looking for, but my focus is currently on American history, which this book clearly does not cover."
