"Sophie's Squash is a children's book by Pat Miller and available from Amazon for $13.59. This award winning book centers on a girl named Sophie who went to the farmers market and picked out a squash. Instead of letting her mother fix it for dinner she names it Bernice and keeps it as a pet. It is a great story for kids and fits the topic very nicely."

"Adorable story that speaks to the true nature of children. Children love baby things and will use anything to substitute as one, as the darling Sophie does in this story with a squash. Precious illustrations, which nicely match the text, and make you laugh out loud. Perfect book to five to a little girl in the springtime. Motivation to start a little garden."

"This book has been our favorite fall themed story that we added to our shelves this year. Sophie has a special bond with Bernice. They go to story time, practice somersaults and Sophie even tucks Bernice in at night. The only problem is that Bernice is a squash. Her parents keep reminding her that vegetables don't last forever, but Sophie just doesn't want to believe them. Finally she starts noticing the physical changes and seeks advice from a farmer at the market. He tells Sophie that a healthy squash needs fresh air, good dirt and love. That gives Sophie an idea on how to help Bernice and the solution is just absolutely perfect!!! This book is truly charming. It captures young innocence and weaves in a bit of humor and some great lessons. "

"As someone who is somewhat into the farm/farm market scene, I really appreciate this book! I donated a copy to a local school, to help foster appreciation of farms and small scale agriculture, and I think for anyone else, this book is great for that."

"Sophie's Squash is a great fit for any age. The artwork is very appealing and reminiscent of illustrations in roald dahl's books. 12 year old kids will like it, though it will not challenge their reading abilities."
