"Mark Twain is a good author, and this book is indeed a classic. However, I think the racist overtones from the 1800s have no real place in modern society. I personally don't dislike the story of Huck Finn... and the Disney movie is certainly entertaining. It's getting a little harder to justify calling this a "good" book now, though, and my rating reflects that."

"The "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" was required reading when I was attending junior high school. Mark Twain is one of America's greatest authors and this is one of his most celebrated books. It's a great story about youth and coming of age on the Mississippi river in the mid 1800's. Though it is considered a classic American novel it is considered by some to be harsh for it's frank language regarding race so it's not for everyone but if you can put it in the context of the time in which it was written there is a great story to be read. Classic American literature that students from middle school through high school should be reading."

"While the book, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn has a berry in the title, it unfortunately is not about food. The word Huckleberry is actually his first name in the book. However, I guess that if you were specifically looked for food in the title it would work."

"This is the classic coming of age story. Of another time, of course, and so some of the racial epithets are hard to get past. LIke most people, I read it in school. Still provocative & well worth reading even today. Bildungsroman abound, but nothing is quite like the story of Huck & Jim."

"Huck Finn is a great book, and probably the single most readable of the classic American novels. Right from the start, it is Huck himself who is speaking to you in his own voice, and he tells you his own story and goes through the the world in his own way, as he is becoming a man. If you haven't read it, read it, and if you have, read it again. Stop looking: this is the book you're looking for!"

Most will hear about this growing up, teachers will give examples of it, or you'll run into it during chats. You'll see it in recommended books and so on. There's a reason for that, because this is an excellent classic. If you haven't already then go read it."

"I wanted to re-read this due to the discussions of removing it from school libraries and required reading lists related the use of a certain word. I read this in the fifth grade, and at that time, it was simply a great adventure of two boys . Now, over 50+ years later I see it in an entirely different light. It is not just an adventure of two boys... but also a social and political commentary on slavery. Now I truly appreciate the significance and genius of Mark Twain. It is a part of our history that we need to study and learn from. Like the Holocaust...we should never forget."

As I've aged and reread this book I've found new meaning in it and I see many of the characters in a different light. It's a classic and a must read for all. "

"I remember having to read this book in middle school, because it was considered a essential read for students. Back then I was not impressed by the book, but two weeks ago decided to purchase it to see if anything had changed and I am happy to say I was wrong about this book. I was too young to under the level of complexity in this book, but now I understand. This book really impressed me due to its satire of racism and its willingness to question the ethics of that time. I finished the books in a couple of days, but I constantly thought about it."

"I grew up with Mark Twain stories and essays. I read Huck Finn as a child and evidently I read the white-washed homogenized "kids" version because this original transcription contains all the local dialects and nuances that would not be interesting to a kid. I have to say this is the adult version of what became a children's adventure tale. Yes, the N word is used, and appropriately in the context of the story. I wish I could have read this original text when I was a child and could identify with the linguistic pronunciations. This Huck was more adult and endearing than I remember it as a child. It was loose, disordered and not at all interesting back then. This book was more than satisfying for the humor, outrageousness and sweet and moving friendships that are timeless and give a glimpse of what life was like in the rural country along the Mississippi. I highly recommend reading this book and experiencing the characters anew. You will not be disappointed."

"Obviously an American classic, which oddly enough, took me nearly 20 years to get around to. It's not really my favorite (I find most of Twain's work to be a little to self-aware to be really believable) but this edition is good enough, and manufactured well too."

"This book is a classic book that I think everyone should read. Although it doesn't have a vegetable in the title, it does have a fruit--Huckleberry-- in the title. Consequently, I don't know that it qualifies for being the best book with fruits and vegetables in the title, but it does qualify for being the among the best books with a fruit in the title. "

I thought it would be best to get one of the classics for him, so I settled on Huckleberry Finn. While it's an older book, it still does hold some appear - he seemed to enjoy it and was able to finish his assignment. "

"I love all of Mark Twains' works. There is a moral lesson to this about the evilness of slavery. Jim, a runaway slave is trying to find freedom and he runs into Huck Finn, who is also running away, but from home. Not going to spoil it for those who haven't read it, but it is a classic for a reason and very worth your time. Highly recommend. "

"I wonder if Huck Finn is still considered the great American novel as it was in the mid-20th century. It’s the first book with such realistic language as far as dialect goes, and it treats the issue of slavery as it was seen in that day. But have we entered an era in which such ways are no longer accepted. Read it and decide for yourself!"

"The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is a classic work of American literature. Lately, it has been getting a bad rap, because it discusses slavery. Sadly, it has been removed from many libraries and schools. Please remember when reading that this is a social commentary on slavery, published in 1884. If you try to obliterate history, it will repeat itself. Great book that everyone should read at least once. The electronic version is free on many sites, including Amazon, so you have nothing to lose."
