"I wanted to like the boy in the striped pajamas but it just kind of meandered everywhere and the ending was so nontraditional I could not get behind it to be honest."

"This is a fantastic fiction book by Irishman John Boyne about the Holocaust . Lots of nonfiction books have been written about the Holocaust, but not a lot of fiction. This one is heartbreaking, shocking and hard to put down., It's told through the eyes of an innocent 9 year old little boy . His innocence and ignorance also explains how the populous, who were aware of the death camps, were also manipulated, uninformed and complicit in the atrocities that were going on in front of their faces. Kind of like what is happening here and in the world today."

"It is set in 1942 during World War II. The main character is a young boy and you follow him throughout the story. It was quite fascinating. I have read a few times and would read again."

"A great fiction book set in 1940's is The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne. It has a serious subject matter and it's really greatly written. A sad moving novel, if your in the mood for that type of book this fits the bill. "

"The Boy in The Striped Pajamas is a horrifying, yet deep account of the Holocaust and World War II. I enjoyed this book because the story is told in a delightful way, considering the nature of the topic. The time passed quickly as I read of 9 year old Bruno and his trials and tribulations during the Holocaust. It's a truly a story line that reveals the devastation of the Holocaust through an innocent boy's eyes."

"I love the read recommended YA fiction books. My favorite right now is The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. It's a really cool book about Bruno, who comes home after school in 1942 Berlin. He finds out his family needs to move to another house close by where he can see weird people. He finds friendship, but with awful consequences. It's a really involving and emotional book. Highly recommended!"

"This book shows the two sides of Jewish concentration camps. It's a heartfelt story of two boys from different sides of the spectrum. It's a coming of age tale that is heartfelt and devastating at times."

"I found this book to be so compelling. It had me smiling at times and it had me in tears. It is such a powerful story of a time that was so frightening and unbelieving. Bruno is an innocent boy who befriends a Jewish boy in a Jewish Concentration Camp during World War II. Their story touched my heart as I know it will yours too. "

  • Brenda Williams

"I found this book to be a very hard, thought very moving read. It's never easy to see the suffering of innocents. I have the hardest time watching animals or children suffer in the wars and atrocities of adults. The Boy in the Striped Pajamas showed Nazi Germany through the eyes of innocent children. The naivety made the whole moment in history that much more chilling."
