"The Crystal Cave is beautifully written, but starts slowly - don't despair. The Hollow Hills builds steam very fast and starts your heart boiling. And The Crystal Cave takes you over the crescendo, almost kills you, and then brings you back gently but with a sigh. Indeed, I've not seen many works as detailed and beautiful as this. What's even more, it is possible to actually read each of them on their own and still get a feel of the whole. "

"Do you believe in Magic? I hope you do, because if you do, you are in for a doozy. That Magic man that we all love for his magical prowess is on the move for a snooze. And what better place to snooze then ones own bed in ones own home. And that is exactly where this wizard is heading, home Magic home."

"In the Arthurian era, this story begins before the beginning and sets the stage for the acts to follow. Arthur aficionados will appreciate this early beginning tale, but I'm afraid the rest of us will likely want to wait for tomes about the real subject matter. Well written but a bit off topic for my taste."

"I am guilty of only reading this book after Seeing the Harry Potter films, then reading the books. I just needed more stories about wizards. Merlin. The original wizard. Not the same style as the friendlier Harry Potter books, but still very good."

" This was a gift to my neice... I've read this series multiple times and will re-read over and over again. I have editions when first printed. An excellent Author!Mary Stewart gives the epic story of Merlin and Arthur heart and soul. The characters she creates are flesh and blood with good, bad, heroic and human characteristics that make the story so believable and hard to put down. Thanks My dear Aunt."

"In The Crystal Cave Mary Stewart delves deep into the personal life of the great Wizard Merlin. You will journey through his turbulent childhood and see the instrumental role he had in the life of King Arthur. This book is the beginning of the magnificent Arthurian Saga and will leave you spellbound and wanting more. "

"Inspired by the Arthurian legend, The Crystal Cave is clearly heavily inspired by myths and folktales. I would recommend reading all 5 novels in the series to get an in-depth understanding of its inspiration."

"These book have aged wonderfully and tell a story unlike almost anything written before about merlins journey throughout his life. The book is very long and will take some time to finish reading but is very interesting. "
