Johnson tells the story of the the London epidemic of Cholera in 1854 through Victorian era science, public opinions and those involved in stopping the epidemic. "If you're like me you tend to think of the Victorian era as a prim and proper time. Nothing could be further from the truth, although that part of it did exist. In reality, most people lived in squalor in cities teeming with filth and disease. London might have been the worst of them. I found this book about a cholera outbreak in that city nothing less than fascinating. The perfect read to learn about germ theory and how it applies in reality."
