"The 20th Century brought with it some unforgettable and truly superior writers. When seeking out a list of the best novels to read from this time period, this novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald needs to be at the top of your list. A compelling story for its day, it is an exploration of live and love during the Jazz Age. Many critics agree this is one of the best 20th Century American novels, as well as many casual readers. The book will suck you in and have you seeking out more books written by Fitzgerald and about this time period when you are done. "

This is one of my favorite stories of all time, about a man who just acquired money falling in love with a woman who comes from old money. A classic tale that I would recommend to anyone, for sure!"

"The Great Gatsby is counted as one of the classics of literature for good reason. F. Scot Fitzgerald coined the phrase "the jazz age," and he gives us probably the most clearly drawn portrait of that period in this book. Fitzgerald's novel is full of materialistic shallow people, and focuses a great deal on the clashes and contrast between old money and the nouveau riche. It raises the question of what exactly the nature of the American dream is, and for that matter, what's the whole purpose of human endeavor? It's all done in beautiful, poetic language, too."

"Of all the books I've read, I still cling to The Great Gatsby, from my high school required reading. It really brings you back to an era where it was possible to be a truly anonymous millionaire, more akin to today's billionaires, a rich socialite that nobody knows. Add to it Jay's chasing after Daisy, and the amazing writing style of F. Scott Fitzgerald, and it just takes you away. It's one of the best books I've ever read, and it all started in high school."

"The Great Gatsby caught my attention after I watched the movie with Leonardo DiCaprio. The story itself is not the type of things I read, but I gave it a try because this is suppoused to be Fitzgerald's best work. This book is an interesting analysis or critique of the decadent 20's, where the rich let themselves go in parties full of vice and decadency. The book has a kind of boring beggining, but after getting used to the narration style it's pretty enjoyable. The characters are complex and well developed, my favorite was the at first mysterious Gatsby. The plot per se is not that incredible, but the writing style keeps you interested. "

"The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald should not be included in The Gaurdian's list of best must read novels. While considered by some readers to be classic literature, Fitzgerald's novel promotes racism and thus should not be included among a must read list. We have enough racism in the United States, as it is, we do not need to teach people to be more racist by promoting racist books."

"The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald’s third book, stands as the supreme achievement of his career. First published in 1925, this quintessential novel of the Jazz Age has been acclaimed by generations of readers. The story of the mysteriously wealthy Jay Gatsby and his love for the beautiful Daisy Buchanan, of lavish parties on Long Island at a time when The New York Times noted “gin was the national drink and sex the national obsession,” it is an exquisitely crafted tale of America in the 1920s."

"When you think "classics" The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald is one of the first that comes to mind when thinking of twentieth-century literature. An archetypal of the gilded age, The Great Gatsby lets us live during that time for a little while an experience what living the life could be like."

This acclaimed story will continued to be loved by future generations and those who have faithfully followed Fitzgerald novels as well as new readers. "

"The Great Gatsby has been described as a great classic. Maybe because its old, o.k., but it is not a classic because it is a riveting and awe inspiring masterpiece. It is quite predictable and the characters are not endearing. The characters live predictable lives that are fate driven and their characters do not grow through their experiences. Boring. "

"I disagree that The Great Gatsby is a one of the best books for SAT takers. If you are a high school student planning to go to college, then chances are that you have to take the SAT. I did, and although I thought the book has some great history, I did not enjoy it all that much. I don't think its fair to generalize that anyone who takes the SAT will consider The Great Gatsby one of the best books. "

Now, having read it as an adult, I can better understand why Fitzgerald wrote the way he did. It's a superbly crafted love story set in an interesting time period with intriguing characters - definitely worthy of being called a classic!"

This story also has description of people and places that just make them come to life and make one feel like they are a part of the story. This story is much more than a simple romance story, it also delves into how one thinks about the American Dream and life in general."

I highly recommend this great work of literature to anyone interested in reading a true classic. This book has it all, a tragic love story, the American Dream, politics and failure.
