"Dracula is intriguing to me and I like reading new thoughts and stories related to the gothic days. I did like the eventual get up of where this one was going. Vlad the Impaler is more of a subject in this which is really cool to be honest. This is one of the more average reads that isn't a bad add to your collection. "

"Interesting setting. It features Vlad the Impalar. Not many books with him featured hahah. It was surprisingly well-written and had me hooked."

"An intriguing mystery set in victorian era. I don't read much from that time period, but this is well written."

"This novel has me on the edge of my seat. The labyrinth in this story is gripping stunning and absolutely amazing. "

"I personally have never heard of The Historian, nor Elizabeth Kostova. However, this particular book has 4/5 stars on Amazon with over 2000 reviews so it must be very popular with a lot of people. I'm not sure that it is the BEST book by an author whose names start with K, but it is probably up there."

"To you, perceptive reader, I bequeath my history....Late one night, exploring her father's library, a young woman finds an ancient book and a cache of yellowing letters. The letters are all addressed to "My dear and unfortunate successor," and they plunge her into a world she never dreamed of-a labyrinth where the secrets of her father's past and her mother's mysterious fate connect to an inconceivable evil hidden in the depths of history. The letters provide links to one of the darkest powers that humanity has ever known-and to a centuries-long quest to find the source of that darkness and wipe it out. It is a quest for the truth about Vlad the Impaler, the medieval ruler whose barbarous reign formed the basis of the legend of Dracula."

"I am a huge fan of Bram Stoker's "Dracula" and the legend of Vlad the Impaler, and I wanted to check out this acclaimed novel that meshes together real-world events with the story of a girl and her family's dark legacy. While I found the tale compelling and the historical components hard to forget, I would hardly consider the graphic subject manner appropriate for school-age readers. Students looking to use this book for a report might be better off consulting actual historical texts for information, as certain liberties may have been taken to tell a better story."

"I love books that are historical. I wanted a new one that I had not read yet. I bought The Historian. The Historian was actually really good and reminded me of the stories my grandmother told me about the period. I thought it was the best piece I had read in a while."

"If you are looking for a book that is specifically on the longer side, I would not necessarily recommend "The Historian", because it seems like it is actually overly long - some parts are simply drawn out and could be edited or changed without losing a lot of the plot details. It is certainly an ambitious book, but it perhaps could have been structured in a better way. It seems kind of pointless to me to read a book that is long just for the fact it happens to be lengthy, but if you insist on doing this, it might be better to find a book that justifies its own length in a stronger way. "I think overall this novel could be both interesting and entertaining, as there are a few different twists and turns it potentially could take. Personally speaking, I do consider myself a fan of a good mystery, and with this reviews of this particular book being strong, I may give this one a chance one day!"

"I like novels with gothic themes, and browsing an online shopping site by genre, I came across 'The Historian' by Elizabeth Kostova, which many readers recommended highly. I tried picking it up, but all I could find were expensive copies with 'import' prices I refused to pay. It wasn't at my library either, so I checked around on file sharing sites, and after quite awhile, downloaded a copy for free. It was an okay read, no more, but I might have been biased against it because of what a headache I had getting it, the book didn't seem to justify all that effort."

"I feel like I've never read a book like this one, and it left me wanting even more by the end! Every word of Kostova's debut novel shines with rich storytelling and beautiful twists and turns only she could have told. It's a novel of vampires and fate, and it's not to be missed!"

"I was looking for a good supernatural fantasy book and I don't think this one quite hit the spot for me. I felt a bit lost or confused as the story can become quite convoluted at times and the author can be a bit too wordy. Other parts of the book just felt unrealistic or out of place as well and the whole story just didn't come together like it could have."

"A "thick" book is a subjective judgment. When I think of something that's thick, I think of things that are thousands of pages and will take me a considerable amount of time to read. "The Historian" is only 720 pages, but each and every one of them is gripping. I'm not sure that it would fit within this niche in my own personal opinion, but it's certainly not a novella. Since it's gripping, I recommend it; however, if you're looking for a true "thick" book, you'll probably have to look elsewhere, since it's possible to knock this one out in a weekend."
