"hmmm.... not sure what to make about The Hobbit on this lsit. I'm pretty sure there are no faeries in The Hobbit! So although its a great book, for a list of novels with faeries I don't rank it highly - because you can find exactly zero faries in this book. :P"

"No, no, no, no, and no. I'm not sure why I never got into Tolkiens' books, I just don't find the subject interesting. I really enjoy the Shadow of Mordor video games, but that's because they're good action games; the lore is a bore. Some people swear by this series, I say "meh.""

"If you have never read The Hobbit, you need to order it now. This is Tolkien's true masterpiece. Filled with action and adventure as you follow a band of dwarves, along with a single hobbit and a powerful mage, in their quest to return to their homeland. The trip is ripe with danger with everything from trolls to orcs trying to stop them. Even after they arrive at their home, their biggest challenge awaits them. This is a classic, go buy it, read it. Your going to love it."

"Come on if you're look for a story with trolls, this has to be the go to. I love that it is really not that long of a book and has stud the test of time when it come to being a good read. I do find it a little boring at times and I will just never understand how it became a 9 hour trilogy, but still a good troll book. "

"Although the book has more detail and elaborates a lot more the movie of The Hobbit is enthralling and it will capture your attention like no other movie will. The J.R.R. Tolkien book is brought to life and the directors, producers and writers have skillfully chosen what to include in the movie and what to leave out. I think this is one of the most successful movie adaptations from a fantasy and science fiction book. "

"The Hobbit is a epic tale by JRR Tolkien. It is available from Amazon for $8.03 for a paperback. This one of my favorite stories of all time. It is the story of Bilbo Baggins who goes on an epic journey with a wizard named Gandalf and a group of rowdy dwarves. This is a book that everyone should have in their collection."

""Tween" is defined as a boy between the ages of 9 and 14. "The Hobbit", as originally written, may be too complex and hard to read for a child of that age. Although it is a fantasy about a miniature species who lives in the forest and has adventures, it was actually written for adults...or at least for young adults. "Tween boys" may get more out of this novel by watching a movie or having the book read to them. "

I read it again when I was 17 and enjoyed it even more! This beautifully written fantasy that transports your mind to make you feel as though your with Bilbo, Gandalf, etc. on their adventures. This is a great book for any age and would be fun to read together as a family."

It keeps you interested the entire time, which is great for 10 year olds. The story of a plain hobbit he embarks on a dangerous, thrill chasing adventure makes for a great story with wizards, dwarves, elves, knights and even a dragon. The book is a great read for anyone."

"A true classic, this book does a great job of providing a reading experience for children while also breaking away from the norm of todays' young adult fantasy filled with high schoolers and werewolfs. The story is of course truly captivating and the world Tolkien has created is one of lush descriptions and blissful imagination. This is a book that everyone should read at least once in their life if they like the idea of magic and fantasy, and my son certainly agrees. "

"The movies do not do justice to this beloved children's book. A bit simpler, and more wistful than the Lord of the Rings series that follows, The Hobbit doesn't shy away from its own horrors that lurk in the shadows. I remember reading this as a teenager, following Bilbo on his journey. Cheering him on when he made the right decisions, and hoping that he wouldn't fall prey to some of the perils that he encountered along the way. Even though it was written in the 1930s, this tale remains a classic for a good reason, and it belongs on every bookshelf so young and old can read it."

It's an epic tale, recently overshadowed a bit by the 3-part movie version, but it's well-worth reading the original book to get a full sense of the story that Tolkien was trying to tell."

A fantastical journey is shared by Tolkien and though pulses will quicken and eyebrows will raise, this journey will not disappoint. Recommended without reservation."

"The world of The Hobbit is pretty different from the world of Hogwarts, but like Harry Potter the Hobbit (and by extension the rest of the books in the franchise like The Lord of the Rings trilogy) has a very unique, well thought out fantasy world, with a complex mythology and interesting characters. It's a little on the kiddy side after finishing all the Harry Potter books, but that's alright, since the first Harry Potter books were meant for kids, too."
