"The Inheritance of Loss uses the struggles of living under colonialism as the foundation of this story about family and hardship. With exacting and lovely prose, she shows how social and political history never truly gets erased. Not everyone will like the flowery style of writing but I found it immersive and poetic. I also felt very close to the characters and the many calamities of their lives--I could really identify with feeling like the world is a series of adversities we hope to overcome with the love and strength of others."

"A very good book set in India with a peaceful feel in the author's writing. While not a page turner, per se, it's great for rainy days when you just want to sit and read for a bit."
