"Add: Written by Umberto Ecos. Average 4 star rating at Amazon with over 650 reviews. Brother William of Baskerville and his novice must solve the murder of 7 monks in a Franciscan abbey. Brother William is a Medieval Sherlock Holmes in this entertaining book."

"A fascinating novel and a great read! I couldn't put this one down and may have spent way too long into the night reading it more than once. Give it a try if you're a mystery fan."

"People say this book is long and intense and makes them tired. I would probably not be able to read a book like this because I would have a hard time staying interested in a wake. It does however have great ratings and reviews."

"Umberto Eco has to be one of my favorite authors. Having written many internationally acclaimed books, he is a powerhouse in the literary community. In my honest opinion, I believe The Name of the Rose to be his best work. It is beautifully written with moments that tug at your heart. It is not an easy read, and I find myself stopping many times only to pick it back up to find out more about William of Baskerville. I highly recommend this book for anyone who is a fan of Umberto. "

"I honestly couldn't get through this one. It took entirely too much focus for me. I gave it a shot for my book club but I just had to pass this one up. I could tell, however, that the story was written well. It's just not my cup of tea. "

"With over 500 pages, The Name of the Rose is a hearty read. It sits on my desk like a tome. What is important however, is the story contained within it. It has a bit of a dan brown vibe to it, but in a much more serious and believable tone and setting. This is one of the best long books that I have actually finished. "

"This is a great book and a highly enjoyable read, but I don't consider it a "reality based" police novel. (How many friars or priests are really detectives as a side job?) Well regarded and definitely worth a read."

"This only has 4 stars, not sure I'd call that best of all time. Story seems intriguing though "

"I was looking for a challenging book to read and a friend suggested The Name of the Rose. It is a 14th century murder mystery. Although the book is very good, it is also exhausting to read. I would only recommend this if you are looking for a hard book to read. "

"This novel is filled with manor politics and intrigue, quite a bit like the recent television phenomenon Downtown Abbey. It's not the most engaging book from the outset, but the core mystery kept me reading to the very end. Good book."

"I have one or two disagreements with the pacing of this book and how it slows down a hint too much. However, past those minor complaints there lays a pretty solid mystery book, one I advise giving a shot if the theme entices you to do so."
  • Eric Crawford

"I was just as big of a fan of this book, as I was the movie that it inspired. I love the world's this author creates as they are incredible vivid and easily imaginable. The story itself is excellent along with its intriguing plot. "
