"The Odyssey is a classic. I'd say instant, but its been thousands of years, so clearly it isn't instant. However, even though it's that old, its not dated. Its still a fantastic story. Stop reading this and go buy it."

"The Odyssey is one of the best pieces of literature that has survived throughout history. Homer was an incredible Greek poet who filled this book with great poems which were thoughtfully written about life's journey."

"This is probably the best translation of The Odyssey. Since most people had to read this book in high school at some point, this is a good book to go back over for clarification or just to re-read."

"I haven't read The Odyssey but it is a great fit for inspiring the Black Sails TV series, The Beautiful and Damned could also be a great fit."

"Famous, classical, and universally admired by great literature's most hardcore fanatics, Homer's tale of life's journey has been told, retold and respected uncountable times. If classic literature is your interest, this is a can't miss, if it's not, it still should be on your list. Highest marks."

"I would say that just about every educated individual should be reading Homer's Oddysey at some point in their life. The tale is timeless and really is considered classic literature for good reason."

"In the Odyssey we learn the fate of Odysseus after the fall of Troy. This book is set in the Trojan War times. I think Homer should have been mentioned more but otherwise it was a good book."

"The Odyssey starts with O. Or does it? By all accounts, surely it starts with the Greek letter omicron, and only when it's translated into English does it start with O. So it's hard for me to recommend this book as one that starts with O."

"I was not a fan of this book. I could not get into the story at all because it seemed so archaic. I fell asleep a few times when reading it because I was bored with it at times. The journey felt tame to some of the books and movies I've read like "Lord of the Rings" or "Star Wars" and I could not really gain interest in any of the characters. This is a book which has not aged well in my opinion."

"If you are looking for a classic novel, "The Odyssey" is not the be missed. A favorite among high school literature classes it is a great read for both high school students and adults. Maybe you vaguely remember reading it in high school, reading it now as an adult gave me a whole new meaning and understanding. It takes about journeys through life in a way that has never since been duplicated."

"Alexander's translation is marvelous. I read Lattimore in school and Fitzgerald on a circumnavigation, but I always felt that there was so much more in the story. Alexander is a master author - she knows the Greek, she knows Homer, but most important she knows how to write and is a master of the English language. Reading this translation, I can clearly imagine it sung in palaces 2500 years ago, but I can also see it read in fighter squadron ready rooms. The blurbs on the jacket show that the scholars love it, but this translation brings Homer's strength, passion, virility and great storytelling straight home to us English speakers. "
