"I usually read non-fiction such as history or biography. Occasionally I read a quick, easy mystery like CJ Boxx or Carl Hiaasen to break up the monotony Since my wife and I are going to Barcelona for our honeymoon I decided to read this book as it came highly recommended. It did not disappoint! I haven't read a complex, lengthy novel in years and I was lamenting the possibility of not being able to finish it before our trip since I usually read a few pages at night before falling asleep. Since I was laid up for a few days with a bad back I was able to finish it in record time (for me). This novel has it all: twisting plot, richly descriptive language, complex characters, and a setting which I am looking forward to visiting (thanks to the walking tour map included in the book). I am looking forward to reading more of Zafon's novels."

"This is a very engrossing book. It is one of those that makes you late for everything because you can't seem to put it down and don't realize how much time has passed. It is the first of the series and is a great mystery book."

"My cousin is a big reader who loves books featuring librarians and I wanted to surprise him with a meaningful gift. I did some searching and wound up finding the book "The Shadow of the Wind (The Cemetery of Forgotten Books)". I figured the book written by Carlos Ruiz Zafon, would be great read for him based on the reputation of The Cemetery of Forgotten Books series, but after hearing his opinion he was extremely disappointed. The book just didn't deliver and live up to the hype."

"The Shadow of the Wind is a fantasy novel, however it's set in historic Spain. The main character is the son of an antique book dealer and it just sorta goes from there. It's a refreshing take on a genre that can be considered stale by many. I would recommend you pick this up"

"This is a decent book and that's something I don't really say about a lot of books. But this is definitely one of them I would recommend. "

"The story starts when Daniel the protagonist visits an old library called The Cemetery of Forgotten Books and picks out one called The Shadow of the Wind by Julian Carax. Fascinated by the book Daniel embarks on a lifelong journey to find out more about the author. The story is very unique and the characters are very detailed and convincing. I'd recommend this series to any lover of fiction."

"I really love what Carlos does with this book, honestly. It sets up the rest of the series while still being relatively self contained (in case you only want to read the one), and the characters and conceit are done super well."
  • Lisa Henderson

"This is an amazing concept for a book series. I admit, I worry that some things may be lost in translation as I read it in English, but even so, a mystery surrounding someone trying to destroy an author's entire set of works is unusual and can be compelling for any book lover. Not for the delicate of sensibility, however, as Zafón does not close the curtain on the sex scenes!"

"The Shadow of the Wind is a pretty good book. I read it with my book club a few years ago. After a huge war set in Barcelona, the main character Daniel visits a a forgotten library which is called the Cemetery of Forgotten Books. It depicts the adventures the young boy goes on inside the library. It's an interesting story."

"In general, I dislike listening to audiobooks. It is very difficult for me to concentrate on a story when there is nothing to look at. Recently, I had to listen to a historical fiction audiobook called The Shadow of the Wind (The Cemetery of Forgotten Books) for a class I am taking. It was actually pretty interesting, and it held my attention fairly well. Overall, I would say that this is a good historical fiction audiobook."
