"A good fiction story that features lesbian characters is: The Spanish Pearl (Kate Vincent Adventures) by Catherine Friend. It's about someone that accidentally travels back in time. It's a fun read that kept my interest. "

"What a fun book this is! Kate gets transported back in time to the 11th century and finds adventure and romance there. Catherine Friend does a great job of showing how a woman from our time, with modern sensibilities, would interact with people of that time. This book is well-researched and the descriptions are accurate and thorough."

"I tried to read The Spanish Pearl but I thought it was totally unreadable. The main characters are zapped back in time to deal with 11th century Spain, and somehow they go on a series of exciting adventures. Entirely too fantastical and escapist."

"If you like historical fiction, this was okay. It gets away from the 21st century ideas in the 11th century by using time travel. Outlander does this particular concept much better."

"I was searching for the best historical romance novels with time travel and was happy to stumble upon The Spanish Pearl (Kate Vincent Adventures). This book is a lesbian romance novel about a woman who goes backwards in time straight to the 11th century. This was a fresh take and new perspective on historical romance novels with time travel and I enjoyed it a lot."

"While a sweet, romantic, time travel story -- the leading couple are lesbians. This may not be the ideal book for ladies looking for a more typical male heart throb story."

"Catherine Friend did NOT mess around with this novel. The time-travel-to-1085 device isn't just a flimsy setting change like many lesser romance novels, she goes all in with the implications of a modern woman sent 900 years into the past and did a surprisingly amount of research on the Moors and Spaniards. Not to say that the book is leaden or too focused on world building - the story is funny, fast-paced, and the romance is done tastefully. This is a lesbian story, though it's so PG that I can't see the average person being turned off by it."

"Great book for a cold night, a cup of tea and curl up in a comfy chair. The storyline kept me drawn in and I kept reading just to find out what was happening to the characters. Katherine can be a bit annoying but other than that I thoroughly enjoyed the book. Looking forward to reading the sequel. One other thing, if you are not accepting of certain relationships this may not be the book for you. "

"The story is fairly good and the historical bits are very well written, but the novel does have some flaws. The protagonist is annoying and foolish, to the point of occasionally dipping into absurdity. Still worth a read. "
