"War and Peace focuses on Napoleon’s invasion of Russia in 1812. It also follows three of the most well-known characters in literature: Pierre Bezukhov, Prince Andrei Bolkonsky, and Natasha Rostov."

"I don't think this book is for everyone, but it definitely a classic. It is hard to read, but I think it is an important novel. It follows different families so the names become hard to try and remember, but I think any history buff or a lover of the classics should read this book. "

"Reading has always been a hobby of mine. To find the best literature of each country has been an interest for a long time and when I got to Russian literature on my list I had to do some real searching. One of the best novels that I ended up reading was War and Peace. This novel made me feel things that I haven't felt in a while from a book."

"Most of the best books over 1000 pages long were written by Russians. War and Peace is a great one but it's a little bit weaker than Crime and Punishment."

"War and Peace is a must read for high school students. It is very long however the story is great. This is a novel that has been around for quite some time. I remember doing a report on it in high school. Very well written and translated. It seemed to lose nothing in the translation either."

"There are some classics which everyone should read, and "War and Peace" definitely falls into that category. Tolstoy's novel follows characters from different backgrounds as they struggle with the problems of living in Russia during Napoleon's invasion. It's an incredibly human snapshot of a moment in history."

"Approaching War and Peace feels like a monumental task. Sitting down and reading it is not for the faint of heart. The story is engrossing and will consume you. It took me about four weeks to finish it because it's not the kind of book that one can read straight through. One puts it down to think about it, coming back after one has digested what has one read. Set against the backdrop of Napoleonic Europe, the story follows three main Russian families as they navigate the early years of the nineteenth century. Plot? Is there one? Perhaps. Perhaps not. The background history of the Napoleon Wars are what set in motion a lot of the action, especially for the male protagonists who fight in the wars. For the females it seems that love and falling in love and out of love and the passage to adulthood are what drives their stories. Our main protagonist is Pierre Bezukhov, a mirror for Tolstoy himself. The ideas Bezukhov spouts are usually the ideas Tolstoy believes in and wants you to believe in too. Pierre is the illegitimate son of a rich aristocrat. "

"War and Peace is an absolute must for anyone who loves classic literature. Once I got started, it didn't feel like a slog at all; Tolstoy is the master of drawing you in with settings, characters, and action. His words fly off the page with energy as he goes deep into the many hypocritical aspect of being human and seeking peace while waging war. A look at civilization, compassion, and the follies of man."
