"I don't always find myself enthralled in the best sellers the way other readers do, but this book was the exception. I became totally immersed in the world and the story and the fantastic characters. A compelling read and wonderful novel!"

""Water for Elephants" is a movie which certainly is based on the book of the same name. The issue however is that the movie doesn't do the justice to the actual source material. Also, there are better books out there which inspired movies. The Lord of the Rings trilogy for instance is one of the best books to have ever appeared on a big screen and the adaptations themselves were amazing too. "

"It's a beautiful book and probably Sara's best work, at least it is in my opinion. I loved it. It's not too long, knows when to end, and a book I was immersed in the entire time I was reading it. I couldn't wait to go to bed every night to get a little further into this book."

"Water for Elephants us a contemporary title by Sara Gruen that follows the story of Jacob Jankowski, who is an old 90+ year old man. It's a fantastic story about the life of Jacob and really keeps readers engaged. However, it is not a romance book."

"A very good book to just get lost in. Where you can enjoy a time in a circus and the lives that live within that life."
  • Melissa Bryant

"I was eager to get to the next sentence. This story lures you in by mentioning the grisly recollection of a ninety-something year old man: with the thought of a plot possibly filled with wild hysteria. The Circus, behind the scenes, has always carried a hint of grunge, delirium and madness within the community of performers to me."

"If you like story about love, and circus, and coming of age, Water for elephants is an interesting reads. How often do you have clowns, elephants and love between man and a woman in the same story."

"I added this one to my cart on a whim and I was surprised to find it was the jackpot of my shopping cart. A story I for one got lost in and loved. It is an old man's reminiscence of the past, and if you can put it down, you are more disciplined than I ! A great read. "

"This book is pretty excellent and has a great story to it. With that said I don't necessarily believe the topic would be the best for it, as it is the traveling circus but you never know some action does happen in Chicago."

"Water of Elephants is a great choice for a graduation gift for a 20-year old or thereabouts. It deals with that kind of insecurity and self-doubt that can pervade people's thoughts who are just getting to the age where they begin to make plans to live independently."

"I read Water for Elephants while I was laid up in the hospital with a nasty infection. I was pretty much handed a list of alphabetized books and somehow my finger wound up on this one near the end. The nurses brought me the book and it took me on a wild flight of fantasy about a life within a travelling circus. I spent the rest of my stay reading this book and it made almost bearable."

"Although this book has a very specific and unusual setting that is very different from other books, it offers a unique and interesting story that takes place during the depression. Because the story is engaging and funny, it draws people in and makes it more enjoyable for them to read about such a rough time in history."

"Entertaining and colorful, this is a pleasant film to watch. The cast does a nice job; Reese Witherspoon displays great athletic prowess and she is a delight to watch. The story's underlying tone of impending disaster provides a negative aura to this tale: it is worth watching to see how it plays out. From a historic perspective, this film portrays the difficult life experienced by those in the circus world at that time."
