"Oh Asus, how I have a love/hate relationship with you. Your computers are powerful enough, but you always seem like the ugly stepchild next to a Macbook. If only Asus would put more thought into their design so my hipster friends would stop giving me the side eye while we sip our Starbucks. "

"When my loyal laptop of five years took an unfortunate tumble off my balcony and down to the concrete five floors below (don't ask...), I needed a replacement. I needed something that could handle everything I would put it through AND not break the bank. This little beaut does it. The Intel Core processor doesn't skip a beat, and the 8GB DDR4 RAM works great for me (there's also an SSD option available if that's more your flavor). It doesn't hold up to super heavy programming like my desktop at work in extended sessions, but definitely gets the job done."

"While not a bad option I wouldn't count this as being near the "best laptops" with a HDD hard drive. I was looking for something with an HDD drive that has a larger capacity to hold all of my games. So I'm searching for a laptop with a an eighth generation i7 Intel CPU, at least 16 GBs of RAM, and a dedicated graphics card such as an nvidia 1060 or higher. "

"Definitely a steal at the price i bought this for. Initial impression is that this thing is super light, almost 1/2 the weight of my Asus ux501vw but with the same screen dimensions. Hard drive is slow and definitely needs to be replaced by an SSD. I Bought an M2 gen 3 SSD, but it does not fit, appears that this is NVME. Also, popped off the back cover and added a 16gb stick in the empty slot. My guess is that this can handle 32gb, which makes it such a steal. keyboard feels firm and no flex, screen is nice for the price range. Battery life doesn't seem to be more than 5 hours, but i expected that going in. Battery charger is super tiny and lightweight, which is an additional advantage vs the 1 lb brick that you have to lug around with the ux501vw. Word of warning, the back cover is a PITA to take off, almost breaks the warranty on how difficult it was to remove."

"This topic asks a crazy specific weight range which is understandable to ask for a certain weight but it's just funny that theres a MINIMUM weight. I understand maximum weight that it will take a toll on your arm or back while transport but do you really not want a laptop that weighs less than 1.5kg? Is 1.49kg a breaking point for some reason? Anyway, for the price this is a decent laptop and the reviews are somewhat solid."

"Although this laptop won't be great for the hardcore gaming crowd, it will certainly meet the needs of most consumers. If your daily needs mostly involve browsing and office work (MS Word, Excel, etc.) than this laptop will be more than adequate and offers some nice bonuses and features while doing so. Those looking for a very powerful laptop may want to look elsewhere, however."

"I got this laptop, or VivoBook, on recommendation for its reliability. At first, it was pretty good, but then a glaring issue came up that I discovered I needed to work around in order for it to properly allow me to do work on it. The laptop came with a HDD, not an SSD (which should be the standard now) so when I tried to code for my projects, things were going so slow I had flashbacks to 90s dialup. Luckily, there are multiple tutorials on how to replace the drives, so once I did that, I noticed an immediate pick-up in the performance of my machine. Still, that was an extra expense, and task, I wish I didn't have to do. Next time, I'll be happy to pay more for the same product with an SSD included. But I won't go through that hassle again if it doesn't."

"Okay, reliable is a fair word for this laptop. It's nothing special, in any way, except in how it does just chug along and get there in the end. It's not too slow, but it doesn't blaze through things either. The battery life won't break records, but it doesn't leave you stranded halfway through the trip either. Looks good when you fire up a game or graphics program, but only if you turn things down just a bit. Basically, solid and reliable. Nothing wrong with that, as long as it's honest and straight up about it, and doesn't try to charge you for more than you're getting."

"My daughter wanted a laptop for her birthday. I bought her the Asus VivoBook F510UA because she said she wanted something she can use for school and to play Sims 4 with. The lady at the store assured me an 8th generation Intel Core i5 processor is more than enough to run that game and more, so I went ahead and bought it. "

"This is a great laptop for programming and has more than enough capability to handle most programming needs. The powerful i5 processor and 8gb of memory will be able to handle most of the workload, and if that is the only requirement this is an excellent laptop for the task. It's price is even very economic, and it has other features that make it a likeable laptop including screen size, hard drive size, and screen resolution."

"For the price of $499, the Asus VivoBook F510UA-AH51 is a bargain for laptop. It's good for light gaming but will fall short for those who are serious about their gaming. However, you will likely need to add an SSD. The HDD slows it down somewhat. Overall it's a good beginning laptop."

"The best advantage of the ASUS VivoBook F510UA is that it is cheap! You will really want to consider adding an SSD to replace the HDD really enjoy it. When I first got this, it felt so slow. I wouldn't dare program on it until you give it some upgrades. Once you do that, you'll be much happier with the experience like me. It is light and portable which is nice."

"I got this ‘cause I needed a work laptop (I’m a second-rate code monkey working for a small firm), and it was a great purchase. It’s lightweight, sturdy, and a really good computer for the price. You can get an amazon store credit with this to cut the cost by like $40, so it’s even cheaper than it looks! I got it with an SSD which does cost an extra hundred bucks or so (and the disk is a lot smaller) but it’s well worth it for the speed and versatility. The computer is super fast, runs everything I need it to (write and compile code, run medium-sized programs, etc) with no problems. Watch out for the 128G storage space if you’re writing huge programs/want to run games on it; otherwise you should be fine. (You can also upgrade the SSD to a bigger one if you want.) "

"Many gaming laptops fetch $1000 for the higher-end specs, but if you are in the market for a budget one, look no further than this Asus laptop. I can't tell you how impressed I have been with the build and quality of this laptop. I think it is essential to add an SSD to the laptop which will only make its value extend even further. Any light internet use is a cinch on this laptop and it can even handle the most resource-consuming games."

"I think it's pretty good? It was definitely cheaper than I thought it would be. The display very bright and the plastic around it is small, so it looks even bigger. I've only used it to play a few games, and nothing that intense. What I did play worked well, but the salesperson said I should bother trying to run the newest games. So maybe it doesn't qualify as the best gaming laptop...but it is a good cheap one."

This great laptop is great for light gaming and has good speed for everyday use. However, if you are a serious gamer or coder this may not be your top choice. Instead, I highly recommend looking into the MSI GL62M 7REX-1896US 15.6" Full HD Thin and Light Gaming Laptop , with a built in cooling system that is perfect for series gamers."

There is a quickness for online gaming that makes it appealing but for work it lags behind what I could find by paying a little more. I need something more advanced if I'm going to be programming day in and day out. This just doesn't cut it. "
