"After not thinking too highly of this movie the first time around—probably because I was confused by its spooky point of view—I watched it again after reading Dick's novel, and I was delighted at how closely it captures the spirit of the book. Paranoid, multi-layered, funny, and unsettling, this is one of those movies where you'll say, "I didn't think they could catch that on film." With its all-seeing police spying on everyone—including themselves—and its maniac war on drugs, it reminds me of something . . ."

"When I first read Philip K. Dick books, I thought they were awesome but it sucks that there's no way to translate all that to screen. Then I saw A Scanner Darkly. Beautiful movie, both visually and story wise. Also some really great actors in it. Incredibly unique. Definitely worth a watch."

"If you read the book, see the movie. If you saw the movie, read the book. I imagine most sci-fi fans have done both. I think Philip K. Dick is probably the most prolific novel to movie screen around. His stories are both entertaining and they make you think."

"This was okay. The filming is unique, but honestly unless you've read the book I wouldn't watch it. Its definitely one of those cult like films where you have to already be in love with it to understand."
