Bates Motel

Also known as the prequel to Psycho, a 1960 psychological thriller film directed by Alfred Hitchcock (which, in turn, is based on Robert Bloch's novel), Bates Motel centers on a mother and her son who decide to live in a coastal Oregon town to begin a new life. Since Norma's husband died, and Norman Bates, her son, suffers from a mental illness, Norma Bates has to do everything she can in order to protect her son from himself and from the people around him. Norma Bates is portrayed by Vera Farmiga, while Norman Bates is portrayed by Freddie Highmore. The acting performances of both main stars have been praised by critics. In fact, Vera Farmiga received the Favorite Cable TV Actress award, while Freddie Highmore took home the Favorite Cable TV Actor award during the People's Choice Awards. And if you're wondering if the show itself won an award, well, it has also been recognized as the Favorite Cable TV Drama at People's' Choice Awards. "This is a great series and definitely worthy of a binge on Netflix. The storytelling is great and we are given a very disturbing and thrilling look into the back story of Norman Bates, and his diabolical mother, played by Vera Farminga. This show is well acted and well written and a great addition to the Psycho mythology."

"Bates Motel is a television series that serves as the prequel to Alfred Hitchcock's masterpiece thriller, Psycho. The cast seems to have been carefully selected and the actors do a fine job of presenting their characters. The show is often quite suspenseful, sometimes gripping and in the end mildly unsettling."

"This is another kind of Netflix horror tv show which is also one of the horror TV shows in Hulu. I don't know what's so hyped with this series that it gained a lot of digital distributors. Can someone give me a brief insight into why should I watch and consider this among the best scary TV shows?"

"They've done a smart job of building a cryptic, threatening world around the disturbing relationship at its center. We keep getting distracted from what should be the main focus of the series - Norman's bizarre relationship with his mother"

"Bates Motel is an excellent show but it's not very scary at all. If anything Bates Motel just leaves you in shock a lot of the time. Overall the plot is excellent and the character development is wonderful."
