"Fullmetal Alchemist contains some elements of Avatar:The Last Airbender, such as: 1)Young male protagonist 2)Young Teens 3)Siblings 4)Fantasy world (magic, magic fights) 5)Characters are fleshed out and are distinct characters. IE. They don't fit cliches or stereotypes. 6)Story has one main goal, and you get to see the full journey from start to finish. 7)Relatively long (60ish episodes) 8)NOT filler 101. AKA story-driven not fill it up with fillers! 9)Romance isn't big but there is romance. 10)Strong female characters (and strong men too) in both emotional and physical strength. I say if you want a good recommendation it would be this anime. Although this is darker as this anime could be considered PG-13 to M-17. As some scenes do contain blood (good amounts) and on screen death. If you wanted something a little darker but still lighthearted and funny like ATLA I would suggest this. This anime is also a top hitting anime with a fantastic story with even better characters and a beautiful fantasy setting. Even if you can't compare it to the vastly different fantasy world that ATLA has, you will surely love the characters and the compelling story. Eventually you might realized that alchemy (the magic system in FullMetal and not potions or such) isn't such a bad magic system. I suggest Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood over Fullmetal Alchemist. As Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood gave me more story, better characters, and explained the alchemy better. However, you could just watch both because they are essentially the same thing cause I watched Fullmetal Alchemist first then Brotherhood, but order doesn't really matter."

"This is an okay solution. It is definitely an anime DVD. The plots of the Fullmetal Alchemist and Avatar are quite different. However, I found them to be in the same general genre. The Fullmetal Alchemist was very good and I enjoyed both movies. This was a solution to my problem. The only downside is that by clicking on the solution, I was only taken to one option. I would have like to consider several possible anime selections that were similar to Avatar."

"I saw a couple of episodes of this series and really liked it. So, when I looked it up and found how much it cost, I was shocked. This might be a really good series but the price they are asking for it is outrageous. I can't see paying that much for something that will provide such a limited time of enjoyment."

"The combination of science and magic makes this anime unique among all. The magic side is explained through some scientfic ways and it is awesome. If you used to play Ragnarok before, you could think of the Alchemist job when you meet the two brothers who are intelligent and ambitious enough."

"It is 2017 and if were are still considering Fullmetal Alchemist as the best Manga, this would be an insult to the industry. Yes, it is a perfect Manga/Anime and even a game, but I believe it had its time long ago. We should consider the new ones instead of looking back at the nostalgia."

"Can't quite explain how the premise of this anime really tugged my heart. They only wanted to see their mother so they did an unforgivable capital sin. THe resolution itself wasn't the happiest one but it's heartwarming. Indeed one of the best animes to watch!"

"Unsure what exactly is being searched for but Fullmetal Alchemist is definitely an anime series that might interest the searcher. It's not necessarily the best of all time. The results all come down to preference but this may be a place to begin."

"Fullmetal Alchemist is a fine example of a steampunk anime, and the link definitely put me on the right track. However, I looked for the individual episodes elsewhere, because buying an entire series sight unseen is a pretty big gamble!"
