Get across the wall to be with your family

Heavily-inspired by Prince of Persia and Oddworld: Abe’s Exoddus, Twin Petes developed a 2D adventure platformer game that strongly adapts George Orwell’s 1984 novel into its gameplay. Ministry of Broadcast is a game set in a totalitarian country under a dystopian regime. It puts you in the role of the ginger-haired protagonist named Orange, who got separated from his family due to a wall built overnight. In order to get back to your family again, you must participate and compete in a deadly government-run reality show called The Wall Show. Basically, the game is an Orwellian take on modern pop culture, politics, and human behavior in this generation.

Challenge-filled journey to freedom

Ministry of Broadcast is a cinematic platformer game wherein a narrative story will unfold as you run, jump, crash, and climb your way through each arena. The dangerous environment is filled with lethal traps, such as frightening sudden drop falls, flaming barrels of garbage, snaring spike pits, and hanging steel beams. Thus, you need to develop the necessary skills to surpass and proceed into the next round. Not only that, you have to answer puzzle game with wit and sometimes harsh facts. There are times also in which you have to sacrifice a non-player character to cross a particular obstacle and advance to the next level.

Despite the impressive story and gameplay that the Ministry of Broadcast provides, there are still some features that are lacking. Among those is the save option. When you lost your life, you need to go back to the checkpoint provided by the system. Your life will not be redeemed at the exact place where you died. Moreover, what can frustrate you more while playing this indie game is players repeated and tedious dialogue between characters whenever another person appears in the middle of a puzzle or action sequence.

Regardless, the Ministry of Broadcast is still one of the narrative-driven games that you should pay attention to. It serves an intriguing setting, engaging gameplay, and entertaining dialogue that can make you laugh at the same time convey a deep message about society nowadays. Furthermore, it has an astonishing pixel art design that perfectly brings the nostalgia of classic retro games.
