The 90s anime shows are the best! There, we said it. Calling all 90s kids out there, can we all agree that the peak of anime came about during the 90s? To be fair, anime has become one of the most successful, if not the most successful, forms of pop culture Japan has ever made. It set foot on American soil in the early 1900s and has proven itself to be commercially lucrative since then. Yet, not until the proliferation of the Video Home System or VHS did anime become a hit mainly because of the easy-peasy distribution of it. Yes, VHS was the staple entertainment starter pack back then. Not to mention that it was only during that time where cable networks became a thing!
But really, what was it that gave birth to the best 90s anime? If you would try to delve deeper into it, you would discover that the OGs of Japan's anime industry had one thing in common: their undying love and their strong desire to transform the whole world into a gigantic television filled with nothing but anime shows. In just a span of 10 years or less, it had gained unprecedented mainstream popularity. And speaking of the OGs, Saban Entertainment was one of the prime movers in the United States during the 80s till the 90s. It co-produced the first 53 episodes of Dragon Ball Z, together with Funimation and Ocean Productions and the rest is history. Enough of boring yet informative text. Re-live your childhood with our list of 1990s anime that includes One Piece, Dragon Ball, Sailor Moon, Cowboy Bebop, Pokemon, and a whole lot more!
Isn't One Piece a staple in your go-to anime list? Commonly, Otakus out there include this, together with Dragon Ball, Naruto, and Bleach. And you know the reason why! But just in case you haven't seen an episode of this anime TV series, you might find yourself amused by Monkey D. Luffy. He is the main protagonist and perhaps the most famous pirate in the world (or at least in the parlance of anime).
Did you know that the manga version of One Piece has more than 800 chapters? By the way, Eiichiro Oda is the brilliant mind behind this masterpiece. He is the one and only writer of the manga. But wait! The anime adaptation is also keeping up with more than 700 episodes. So if you are one of the new aspiring Otakus out there, once you sail and go on board with the Straw Hat Pirates (that's what Luffy and his gang are called), there's really no turning back! Since its inception on October 20, 1999, the show still continuously produces episodes following the life of Luffy. Welcome aboard!
