DID YOU KNOW?

Did you know that Ishval and Amestris conflict from the action anime Fullmetal Alchemist has a real-life basis? Its creator Hiromu Arakawa based it on Japanese culture despite having European references. It was during the Meiji Restoration featuring the Ainu and Wajin people.

Arakawa learned that her ancestors are Wajin while her relatives are half-Ainus. Confused about her ancestry, she used it as an inspiration for Scar’s character and the Ishvalans. How? The indigenous people Ainu represents Ishvalans. While the native Japanese people, Wajin represents the Amestrians. During the 14th century, the Ainus has to intermarry with the native Japanese people. Hiding as a tool to prevent discrimination, it became a way in erasing the Ainu heritage. Meanwhile, in Fullmetal Alchemist, it became the inspiration for the Ishval Civil War. In the anime, an Amestrian soldier shot an Ishvalan civilian causing for a conflict to arise. This major event played an important role throughout the anime action series. It started gaining recognition from its viewers. In 2006, it won the Animation of the Year award from the Tokyo Anime Fair. It also received several awards in American Anime Awards including Best Long Series. "This show was so ahead of its time that some would argue, it created an entirely new genre of its own. I have not seen any anime show that flawlessly integrated pulp fiction into core as well as bebop did. The musical score is amazing, the action sequences are superb and fluid, and the story touches upon some deep existential themes despite its occassional capriciousness."

There is plenty to like about this show from the character development to the intense fight scenes. The episodes can drag a little but it is definitely one of the best action anime ever."

These are the things that this tries to explore and it never truly ends up with a definitive answer, the journey to get is was quite a ride and will leave you pondering about your sense of morality."

It mixes plenty of gore, horror, and intense action fights while trying pose philosophical questions tackling the meaning of existence and going against predestination, all of which is in a medieval setting. It unorthodox and over the top but it is one that is worth watching."

The main difference is that this show is more grounded and realistic compared to that centers around the Meiji Period of Japan and it had everything. It had plenty of action, some comedy, and of course, romance. This is a definite recommendation from me."

If you are a fan (one of the kids is), this is a great version of this, as its not edited like the Nicktoons version. The 16x9 presentation blurs things up a bit, but the kiddo doesn't seem to mind. Just "ok," not exactly my cup of tea."
