"As contrived as it may sound, The Joy Luck Club helped me connect better with my mother. I'm a second-generation Asian, the only one in my immediate family born in the U.S. I always felt disconnected from my mom because we grew up in two very different worlds. This book helped me view her differently and encouraged me to get to know her better. It's beautifully written and deserves all the praise it has received. "

"Something Blue definitely doesn't live up to Something Borrowed. Maybe it is because it is told from Darcy's point of view, who is a more whiny character, but I found myself getting annoyed by the style of writing. I also thought the plot lacked oomph, like it needed more conflict."
