"The Story of a Three-Day Pass takes place when race relations were not like they are now. Just for fraternizing with a white woman while on leave a black soldier fets demoted"

Did you know that Hollywood used to avoid casting African-American actors/actresses? This was because of the prevalent racial racial discrimination in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Back then, there was a form of entertainment called Blackface. It let Hollywood use different characters without having to use anyone with a darker skin tone. Eventually, this practice died out particularly in 1930. The slow rise of consciousness against racism and bigotry was its probable cause. Today, one can find a great number of African-American movies released. Seems like a big deal of Hollywood has the imprint of African-American actors and directors.

One example of an African-American actor who made it big in Hollywood cinema is Denzel Washington. He made it big as an actor, director, and producer. He has received two Golden Globe awards, one Tony Award, and two Academy Awards for his works. He is now considered as one of the best African-American celebrities in Hollywood cinema. A number of actors have also followed the trend of successful African-American actors. Guys like Will Smith and recently, Edi Gathegi have followed. Movie lovers can enjoy the stellar performances of African-American actors in the movies today. Their works are also featured in various streaming platforms where you can watch African-American movies online.

"I'm really not sure why films are marketed as "African-American" films just because the cast is mainly black. I really don't care either way. Nevertheless, I did see the African-American film Middle of Nowhere, and I thought it was great. I would recommend this film to anyone who loves movies."

"I'm not very big on sports movies. But this one was completely different from the ones that I have seen before. I love that it's based on a true story and that it shows the story of a black man overcoming the prejudices set against him. Terrance Howard has a wonderful performance as Jim Ellis, the African-American swim coach who pulls together a misfit group of teenage swimmers. Lovely story. Would recommend to anyone!"
