"Octavia Butler was, until her death, one of the most inventive writers of science fiction around. Her books often revolve around women of color, or at least female creatures marked by their skin or their talents as "other." Wild Seed is a fantastic tale that is also a tale of the close intimacy between two women. "

"I have been reading this trilogy and found the book to be well done. The story was intriguing and the characters have you invested into their lives. I do not think this is a good portrayal of a science fiction novel. I think this is more fantasy. The two are very different. As a science fiction novel is does a poor job, but as a fantasy book, it is up there with the rest of them."

"Science fiction has always held a mirror up to society. It's important to explore societal bounds and science fiction is a great way to do that in a removed context. But this is just a social-justice parable masquerading as speculative fiction. Honestly, I felt like it was a lecture from a particularly worked-up liberal professor. Its "message" is so heavy-handed and unsubtle that it completely derailed the actual story. Pass!"
