What are the best alien movies?

By definition, extraterrestrial life is a hypothetical life that may occur outside of Earth. This can refer to the simplest of lifeforms or civilizations that are far more advanced than humanity. In fact, there's a science that's dedicated to the study of extraterrestrial life in all its forms called astrobiology. The concept of extraterrestrial life and intelligence has had a major cultural impact on us as a society. This has been especially true in works of science fiction or more commonly referred to as sci-fi. Science fiction has introduced plenty of theories, some plausible, and some out of this world (get it?) notions.

One of the most popular subjects of these sci-fi films and shows are aliens. Species that are living outside their natural habitat and brought there by human activity. There's even a movie franchise called Alien. Aliens come in many different forms and appearances. There have been many interpretations ranging from the scary to the weird and inexplicable. It's always a thrilling time to watch these movies and fans seem to like them a lot as well. If you don't have much knowledge and experience with these types of movies, you should give them a try. Even if you're not a fan, they are still pretty interesting to watch. They give us a glimpse of how our idea of aliens and extraterrestrial life has changed over time. Check out our list of some of the best alien movies and give us your thoughts after watching them.

DID YOU KNOW?

You have to admit it, there's something so endearing about alien movies that always set your hearts aflutter. Whether it's charged with romance, filled with action, or uttering with horror, they always have something to offer. Nobody could really blame you, though, if you find yourself looking for the best rated alien movies all the time. The possibility of life out there is just equal parts enthralling and terrifying. On the one hand, it's enthralling because of the mystery it creates. On the other, it's terrifying because no one really knows what they are after - what is set to happen in the years to ensue. But these extraterrestrial occurrences have long been the subject of not only the top alien movies but also of literature. Yes, there's also an extant amount of books about aliens that take on this topic.

But amidst all these fictional works, there is a reason to believe that these creatures are indeed true. Why not, right? It's a big, big universe. Did you know that the U.S. military has already reported sightings of UFOs? And the U.S. government is actually taking this matter seriously. The only thing is, they don't want the military to call them UFOs because of the stigma that the word entails. You'd think these only see them on YouTube videos, but these are real. And truth be told, there have been enough incidents that led officials to look into the unexplained phenomena. Some pilots claim to have spotted spherical objects flying in the sky formation. Others say that they saw Tic Tac–shaped vehicles. Now, do you still find extraterrestrial life forms fascinating?

"Contact is arguably one of the best, if not THE best alien movie ever made. The build-up of emotions as Jodi Foster listens to transmissions from space has you on the edge of your seat during the whole movie. The plot is so different from other alien movies which is probably what sets it apart. Of course aliens would set up some form of communication with instruction for how to contact them rather than flying their spaceships all over the universe trying to track down potential life forms. They are more advanced than us after all. You may not fight guts and gore here but if you want to explore deeper issues that make you think then this is by far one of the greatest alien movies out there."

I would highly recommend to anyone interested in science fiction and/or action to see this film - even though it came out 31 years ago, you WILL NOT be disappointed. This is a fantastic film and I can't say enough good about it. This page will get you what you need in order to see the film. Again, highly recommended."

"I like to overall pace and idea on the movie. The language concept was interest and it opened up another possibility if extraterrestrials were to visit. Its no interstellar but still a good movie. I would have rated this four but bumped it to a 3 because i did not like the ending. Without spoiling anything a decision that is made by a character is debatable to say the least."

"Like a good alien flick? Then this is the topic for you. It gives you Predator, a classic Schwarzenegger that takes place in a Central American jungle. Arnold and Weathers take on a warrior who's not exactly of this Earth, and you'll enjoy the ride. I think Alien is actually a better alien movie (and what about E.T.?), but your mileage may vary."

I was sad to see that the movie suffered from a poor transfer to Blu-ray format. It severely detracted from my enjoyment of the film."
